*This Research Topic is a continuation of "Endometriosis: Pathogenesis, Diagnosis and Treatment"* Endometriosis is a benign gynecological condition that causes pain symptoms and infertility; these symptoms may significantly impair quality of life. It affects at least 4% of reproductive age women. Over the last 20 year several improvements have been made in the understanding of the molecular pathways involved in the pathogenesis of endometriosis which however remains to be fully elucidated. Transvaginal ultrasonography is the first line imaging technique used for the diagnosis of endometriosis, radiological imaging (such as magnetic resonance imaging and virtual colonoscopy) can be used for patients with suspicion of bowel or urinary tract endometriosis. Hormonal therapy is the first-line treatment of endometriosis related pain. First-line therapies are combined estroprogestins combinations and progestins. Second-line therapies include gonadotropin releasing hormone analogue and gonadotropin releasing hormone antagonist. Aromatase inhibitors have been proposed for the treatment of endometriosis but they are not approved for this use and they should be administered only in the setting of scientific research. Although, hormonal therapy decreases the intensity of pain symptoms, it is not curative, and symptoms usually recur after the discontinuation of treatment.

Nutrition plays a key role in prevention of cardiovascular disease, the leading cause of death worldwide. Diet influences a broad spectrum of cardiometabolic risk factors, notably a cluster including excess adiposity, dyslipidemia, impaired glucose metabolism and high blood pressure. In the face of the rapidly increasing incidence of obesity and diabetes, maintaining cardiometabolic health through adoption of a healthy lifestyle is a top public health priority. In this book, Nutrition and Cardiometabolic Health, international experts present state-of-the-art scholarly reviews of dietary and lifestyle effects on metabolic systems associated with cardiovascular health and disease. It covers a broad range of topics including biological and behavioral processes regulating food intake; lifestyle and surgical approaches to weight loss; nutritional considerations for optimal cardiometabolic health across the lifespan; the relationship of macronutrients, whole foods and dietary patterns to diabetes and cardiovascular disease; and diet as a modulator of gene expression, epigenetics and the gut microbiome and the relationship of these traits to disorders of metabolism. This book provides its readers with an authoritative view of the present state of knowledge of dietary effects on cardiometabolic health and will be of interest to nutrition and healthcare professionals alike.

Epigenetics In Psychiatry written by Jacob Peedicayil and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-06-23 with Science categories.

Epigenetics in Psychiatry covers all major areas of psychiatry in which extensive epigenetic research has been performed, fully encompassing a diverse and maturing field, including drug addiction, bipolar disorder, epidemiology, cognitive disorders, and the uses of putative epigenetic-based psychotropic drugs. Uniquely, each chapter correlates epigenetics with relevant advances across genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics. The book acts as a catalyst for further research in this potentially very important and useful area of psychiatry. The elucidation of basic principles of epigenetic biology points to the creation of more optimal and effective therapies for major classes of psychiatric disease. In this regard, epigenetic therapy, the use of drugs to correct epigenetic defects, may help in the pharmacotherapy of patients with these disorders. With time, such advances may eventually point to replacements for psychotropic drugs presently of symptomatic value and low efficacy. Moreover, there is evidence to suggest that other forms of treatment commonly used in the management of psychiatric disorders, like psychotherapy and electroconvulsive therapy, may also act by epigenetic mechanisms. Chapters review fascinating new areas of research across neuronal stem cells, cognitive disorders, and transgenerational epigenetics through drug addiction Relates broad advances in psychiatric epigenetics to a modern understanding of the genome, transcriptome, and protein Catalyzes knowledge discovery in both basic epigenetic biology and clinical application as epigenetic targets for drug discovery
