The Fracture Of Brittle Materials written by Stephen W. Freiman and has been published by John Wiley & Sons this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-03 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Supports the use and development of strong, fracture-resistant, and mechanically reliable ceramic materials The Fracture of Brittle Materials thoroughly sets forth the key scientific and engineering concepts underlying the selection of test procedures for fracture toughness, strength determination, and reliability predictions. With this book as their guide, readers can confidently test and analyze a broad range of brittle materials in order to make the best use of existing materials as well as to support the development of new materials. The authors explain the importance of microstructure in these determinations and describe the use of quantitative fractography in failure analysis. The Fracture of Brittle Materials is relevant to a broad range of ceramic materials (i.e., any inorganic non-metal), including semiconductors, cements and concrete, oxides, carbides, and nitrides. The book covers such topics as: Basic principles of fracture mechanics underlying brittle material tests and analysis procedures Theory and mechanisms of environmentally enhanced crack growth Fracture mechanics tests to determine a material's resistance to fast fracture Test and analysis methods to assess the strength of ceramics Methods to analyze the fracture process based on quantitative measurements of the fracture surface Effect of a material's microstructure Methods for predicting the lifetime of brittle components under stress Throughout the book, figures and illustrations help readers understand key concepts and methods. Replete with real-world examples, this text enables engineers and materials and ceramics scientists to select and implement the optimal testing methods for their particular research needs and then accurately analyze the results.

Brittle Fracture In Steel Structures written by G.M. Boyd and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-22 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Brittle Fracture in Steel Structures emphasizes the prevention of brittle fracture in structures fabricated from mild and low alloy steel operating at normal ambient temperatures. This book is divided into seven chapters. Chapter 1 provides the historical background and summarizes numerous case histories of brittle fractures. The nature of the phenomenon and factors that influence brittle fracture, including various methods of testing to determine the notch ductilities of different steels are described in Chapters 2 to 4. The fifth chapter elaborates the design considerations affecting the choice of steel for structural applications. Chapter 6 reviews the main methods for assessing the degree of notch ductility needed for different applications, while Chapter 7 deliberates practical procedures, recommended by the Navy Department Advisory Committee on Structural Steels, for assessing the suitability of different steels for particular applications. This publication is beneficial to metallurgists and welders intending to acquire knowledge of mild steel structures fabricated by welding from rolled steel plates and sections.

Comparison Of Mode Ii Fracture Toughness Test Methods For Wood And Wood Based Composites written by Milad Mohamadzadeh and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Adhesion categories.

Currently, there is no standard test methodology for the evaluation of Mode II fracture toughness,GII, for wood and wood composite materials. This article measured the Mode II fracture toughness of solid wood, laminated veneer lumber (LVL), and oriented strand lumber (OSL) using the three-end notched flexure (three-ENF) test and the compact shear (CS) test. Fracture toughness values from the three-ENF test were similar for the solid wood and LVL material, demonstrating similar failures of specimens. The OSL materials had significantly lower fracture toughness values and exhibited exceedingly brittle failure. The CS test was not considered to be a practical method for measurement of Mode II fracture toughness because of the lack of stable crack propagation.
