“Nidors (2) arrives both as a discrete text and as the second entry in a lopsided trilogy. The 'poems' herein sprang their specious little helices from the rebuke for which they were built. However, something of the swarf has escaped via negative poetotaxis and is ready to interrogate the masters in its meat. How will poetry work out its particular roboclasm under the climate of the internet? Skim the phytoplankton of this eutrophic milkshake and leave your notes!”-- back cover.

The savage murder of 78-year-old Bible teacher Ruth Pelke by four teen-age girls was the beginning of Bill Pelkes Journey of Hope...From Violence to Healing. Initially Bill did not object when 15-year old Paula Cooper was sentenced to death for his grandmothers murder. Through the power of prayer and transformation, he moved from supporting her death sentence, to working to have it overturned, to dedicating his life to the abolition of the death penalty. This is the story of Bills journey, the obstacles he overcame, and the amazing, loving, forgiving, committed people he met on the way.

Reflections On Baroque written by Robert Harbison and has been published by Reaktion Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-09-01 with Art categories.

From its beginnings in the seventeenth century, the Baroque embraced the whole of Catholic Europe and infiltrated Protestant England, Orthodox Russia and even Muslim Turkey. Architecture, paintings, poetry, music, natural science and new forms of piety all have their places on the Baroque map. In this surprising reinterpretation of the Baroque, Robert Harbison offers new readings that stress its eccentric and tumultuous forms, in which a destablized sense of reality is often projected onto the viewer. This strange, subjectively inclined world is manifested in such bizarre phenomena as the small stuccoed universes of Giacomo Serpotta, the Sacred Mounts of Piedmont and the grimacing heads of F. X. Messerschmidt. Harbison explores the Baroque's metamorphoses into later styles, particularly the Rococo, and, in an unexpected twist, pursues the Baroque idea into the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, proposing provocative analyses of pastiches or imitations (in Der Rosenkavalier and the work of Aubrey Beardsley) or resemblances (deliberate or not) in Czech Cubism and Frank Gehry's architecture. Reflections on Baroque demonstrates that the Baroque impulse lives on in the twenty-first century imagination.

An international team of scholars examines such subjects as the political and religious use of architecture, the birth of the baroque in Rome, landscape, fantasies, and the education of the architect. The second part of the book, a catalogue of works exhibited, illustrates the types of baroque construction: villas and chateaux, military architecture, royal palaces, and gardens."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. This major work of historical ecology advances the integration of research on environmental and social systems, contributing important lessons for contemporary natural resource policy and management. A diverse, international region, the Pyrenees has been characterized as a quintessential example of rural areas across Europe and North America. The authors use qualitative and quantitative methods from economics, history, anthropology, and ecological science to integrate human agency and ecology across a landscape that moved from agricultural and pastoral production to industrialization, then experienced acute depopulation, and now is becoming a focus of conservation and tourism. The book shows how today’s most pressing resource policy challenges are best illuminated by this broad, long-term understanding of humans and landscapes.
