A presente obra apresenta a utilização da Etnobotânica como possibilidade de conexão entre a educação básica e profissional, no currículo integrado da educação profissional científica e tecnológica. Contempla, ainda, um referencial histórico da educação profissional no Brasil, desde a sua implantação nos idos do século XX, além de apresentar um quadro teórico sobre o currículo integrado e sua articulação na educação profissional de nível médio, apresentando um estado do conhecimento sobre a temática abordada na pesquisa, na região Norte do Brasil. O caminho metodológico percorrido nesta investigação foi de cunho qualitativo. Adotamos essa abordagem, pois entendemos que o "pesquisar" em educação difere-se de outras áreas de interesse humano, uma vez que ela reconhece a subjetividade na busca pelo conhecimento, permitindo possíveis inferências sobre os saberes coletivos. Trazemos como embasamento investigativo o Estudo de Caso, explorado em todas as suas vertentes e sua utilização na pesquisa educacional. As técnicas de coleta de dados consistiram na análise de documentos sobre a educação profissional, Projeto Pedagógico de Curso e resoluções que estabelecem as diretrizes dessa modalidade na educação. As fontes de evidências foram as entrevistas realizadas com os professores e alunos que compõem o local de investigação. Foram utilizados, também, alguns registros de campo, coletados durante as entrevistas. Além disso, o texto apresenta uma articulação teórica sobre a transversalidade da Etnobotânica e a educação ambiental, bem como, as suas possibilidades de inserção no ensino de Ciências. Os dados revelaram que a comunidade docente e discente do IFRO/campus Cacoal é detentora de uma gama de conhecimentos sobre plantas medicinais, que podem e devem ser utilizadas como eixo de integração nas disciplinas do curso, porém, esses conhecimentos não são explorados no processo de ensino e aprendizagem. Por fim, recomendamos que a Etnobotânica seja inserida na matriz do curso, com base nos dados revelados na pesquisa, que evidenciaram a possibilidade dessa na conexão entre a educação básica e profissional.
