At the Intersection of Selves and Subject: Exploring the Curricular Landscape of Identity aims to raise awareness of the inextricability of our teaching and learning selves and the subjects with whom and which we engage. By exploring identity at this intersection, we invite scholars and practitioners to reconceptualize relationships with students, curriculum, and their varied contexts. Our hope is to encourage authenticity, consciousness, and criticality that will foster more liberating ways of teaching and learning. This collection will be useful for pre- and in-service teachers, teacher educators, and educational researchers. It is a valuable resource for teacher education courses such as Curriculum Studies, Reflexive Practice, Philosophy of Education, Sociology of Education, Teaching Methods, Current Issues in Education, Collaborative Inquiry, and Narrative Inquiry. “At the Intersection of Selves and Subject lays bare the deepest under layers of the teacher self and subject with new energy. The sharing of reflexive inquiries in ethical self-consciousness liberates and unwraps queries into pedagogical practice. This is an important book for all educators, but especially for pre-service teachers as they consider or challenge the donning of teacher identity.” – Pauline Sameshima, Canada Research Chair in Arts Integrated Studies, Lakehead University, and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies “A pendant of images and texts, this collection is a dazzling display of Ellyn Lyle’s insight that “understanding self is a way to understand other and society.” That and other affirmations are depicted narratively and theoretically, across and within indigeneities, singular exceptional identities, and paradoxical and (inherently) political identities. This collection invites us to work from within to reconstruct the self professionally. This pulsating portrait of juxtapositions teaches transpositions and extricates intertextualities. Through resolve, we are preserving this fragile someday shared space for being. Open this book as entering one such space; study what this pendant refracts in you.” – William F. Pinar, Canada Research Chair, University of British Columbia, Vancouver

Instead, it reveals the interconnectedness of all things and the dynamic nature of reality. Beyond the Binary takes readers on a journey of discovery, unveiling the ways in which binary thinking shapes our perceptions, our relationships, and our societies. Embracing Complexity written by Jean G. Boulton and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Business & Economics categories.
The book describes what it means to say the world is complex and explores what that means for managers, policy makers and individuals. The first part of the book is about the theory and ideas of complexity. This is explained in a way that is thorough but not mathematical. It compares differing approaches, and also provides a historical perspective, showing how such thinking has been around since the beginning of civilisation. It emphasises the difference between a complexity worldview and the dominant mechanical worldview that underpins much of current management practice. It defines the complexity worldview as recognising the world is interconnected, shaped by history and the particularities of context. The comparison of the differing approaches to modelling complexity is unique in its depth and accessibility. The second part of the book uses this lens of complexity to explore issues in the fields of management, strategy, economics, and international development. It also explores how to facilitate others to recognise the implications of adopting a complex rather than a mechanical worldview and suggests methods of research to explore systemic, path-dependent emergent aspects of situations. The authors of this book span both science and management, academia and practice, thus the explanations of science are authoritative and yet the examples of changing how you live and work in the world are real and accessible. The aim of the book is to bring alive what complexity is all about and to illustrate the importance of loosening the grip of a modernist worldview with its hope for prediction, certainty and control.

Secularism The Basics written by Jacques Berlinerblau and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-30 with Religion categories.
Secularism: The Basics is a concise and engaging introduction to confusing and contradictory public discussions of secularism across the globe. “Secularism” must be the most confused and convoluted term in the entire global political lexicon. From New York to Paris, to Istanbul, to Addis Ababa, to New Delhi, to Montevideo, there are countless examples of politicians, religious leaders and journalists, invoking the S-word in heated debates about public education, gender, sex, national symbols, and artistic freedom. In this lively and lucid book, Jacques Berlinerblau addresses why secularism is defined in so many ways and why it so ignites people’s passions. In so doing, he explores the following important questions: What does secularism mean? Why should we care about this idea? What are the different types of secularism and what are their histories? What are the basic principles of political secularisms? Why are secularism and Atheism often confused? What is the relationship between secularism and LGBTQ rights? What opposition are secularisms up against? What does the future hold for a concept millennia in the making, but only really operationalized in the twentieth century? With a glossary of key terms, case studies, informative tables, and suggestions for further reading throughout, the book considers key philosophical, religious, anti-religious, post-modern and post-colonial arguments around secularism. This book is an ideal starting point for anyone seeking a readable introduction to the often-conflicting interpretations of one of our era’s most complex and controversial ideas.

Theologies From The Pacific written by Jione Havea and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-16 with Religion categories.
This book offers engagements with topics in mainline theology that concern the lifelines in and of the Pacific (Pasifika). The essays are grouped into three clusters. The first, Roots, explores the many roots from which theologies in and of Pasifika grow – sea and (is)land, Christian teachings and scriptures, native traditions and island ways. The second, Reads, presents theologies informed and inspired by readings of written and oral texts, missionary traps and propaganda, and teachings and practices of local churches. The final cluster, Routes, places Pasifika theologies upon the waters so that they may navigate and voyage. The ‘amanaki (hope) of this work is in keeping talanoa (dialogue) going, in pushing back tendencies to wedge the theologies in and of Pasifika, and in putting native wisdom upon the waters. As these Christian and native theologies voyage, they chart Pasifika’s sea of theologies.

LabStudio: Design Research between Architecture and Biology introduces the concept of the research design laboratory in which funded research and trans-disciplinary participants achieve radical advances in science, design, and applied architectural practice. The book demonstrates to natural scientists and architects alike new approaches to more traditional design studio and hypothesis-led research that are complementary, iterative, experimental, and reciprocal. These originate from 3-D spatial biology and generative design in architecture, creating philosophies and practices that are high-risk, non-linear, and design-driven for often surprising results. Authors Jenny E. Sabin, an architectural designer, and Peter Lloyd Jones, a spatial biologist, present case studies, prototypes, and exercises from their practice, LabStudio, illustrating in hundreds of color images a new model for seemingly unrelated, open-ended, data-, systems- and technology-driven methods that you can adopt for incredible results.

For many organizations, the way in which projects are managed is a fundamental factor in how well they can prosper in today’s marketplace. Unfortunately, the current solutions available to companies for managing projects are proving to be increasingly ineffective in a complex world that is becoming more and more dynamic and unpredictable. Organization’s pay for this complexity in delayed time-to-market, slow response to customer needs, and decreased productivity. While tweaking the current project management paradigm may provide some minimal gains, to have a real impact requires a fundamental change in mindset. New business models like Uber and AirBnB show us that the most efficient operations in today’s business environment behave like complex adaptive systems (CAS) where self-managing participants, following a set of simple rules, organize themselves to solve incredibly complex problems. Instead of trying to function like a "well-oiled machine" where things "work like clockwork", companies like Uber function more like an organism that is alive and constantly changing. They fully embrace the characteristics of a CAS. Viewing an organization as a complex adaptive system drives a radically new philosophy of project management that is much better suited to the needs of the 21st-century organization and can provide the quantum leap improvement in project production that we are looking for. This book exposes the assumptions underlying the accepted paradigm of project management, describes the common practices that are based on those assumptions, analyzes why these practices are unhelpful and even harmful, and proposes an alternative, sometimes seemingly counter intuitive approach to project management based on CAS thinking. By the end of the book, the reader will have a completely new perspective on the way projects can be managed in their organization, and how they can quickly start reaping the benefits provided by a CAS-driven management methodology and supporting toolset that is more in tune with today’s business demands - and that turns complexity into a competitive advantage.

Conflict Sensitivity In Development Humanitarian Peacebuilding Practice written by Susanne Schmeidl and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-28 with Social Science categories.
Inspired by Mary Anderson’s influential work Do No Harm (1999), this book encourages critical reflection on the development and contemporary relevance of conflict sensitivity approaches in international development, humanitarian action and peacebuilding. Despite the widespread acceptance of conflict sensitivity, particularly in the context of worsening crises, there has been a surprising lack of critical discussion and evaluation of the framework and its application. This book fills this gap by bringing together a diverse collection of articles, practice notes and reflections from academics and practitioners in the field of conflict sensitivity. It provides a comprehensive platform for valuable debate, highlighting strengths, areas for improvement and practical guidance for real- world application, based on 25 years of conflict sensitivity/ do no harm practice and innovation. By integrating insights from practitioners, the book aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Advocating the systematic integration of conflict sensitivity into humanitarian, development and peacebuilding efforts, the book offers practical guidance for implementation and adaptation in different contexts and programmes. As a valuable resource, it deepens understanding and promotes accountability to the populations that humanitarian, development and peacebuilding actors seek to support, including actors advancing conflict sensitivity in their own contexts. It serves as a springboard for further academic research on conflict sensitivity. This book was originally published as a special issue of Development in Practice.
