Compliance emerged from the banking industry but became important in the industry sector during the last years as well. So far the opinion on compliance risks is that it cannot be estimated on a quantitative base but with the help of rather qualitative methods and feeling for a situation. However, penalties for corruption or antitrust law violations reached balance-sheet relevant amounts, making it evident that a quantification of those compliance risks is necessary. Therefore the thesis aims to develop a model to quantify compliance risks. For this purpose one certain industry is chosen, the German automotive industry. To achieve the derivation of a quantification model, risk measures from the banking industry were used as role models, since in this area a lot of experience in risk evaluation exists. Finally, a model for four individual compliance risks and a compliance risk portfolio could be computed.
