Excerpt from Compressed Air Magazine, Vol. 26: November, 1921 There is also a low vacuum main joined to the system of house tubes in the C. T. 0. (see compressed air magazine, Vol. 25, June, 1920; pg. 9673) which can be joined to the inlet pipe of one compressor. The vacuum maintained in the reservoirs for working the street tubes is about 6% lb. Per square inch; and the pressure in the pres sure reservoirs varies between 10 lb. Per square inch, at which point the compressors cut out and 7 lb. Per square inch at which point they cut in. The reservoirs consist of disused Lancashire boilers, 2t ft. Long, 6 ft. 6 in. Excerpt from Compressed Air Magazine, Vol. 26: September, 1921 Pressure may be applied from agencies at the surface through the medium of air or natural gas, or the subterranean pressure may, in effect. Be augmented by a reversal of the compressor, i. E., inducing a partial vacuum. In some districts this latter procedure has answered quite successfully, but there are oil bearing areas where the subterranean condi tions do not lend themselves to a satisfactory operation of this system. To meet the latter circumstances a subsurface pressure must be built up by mechanical means to replace the pressure originally exerted by the pent-up gas. In certain fields gas is tapped from the sand a few feet above the oil-producing formation, and this gas is compressed and forced below to again promote the desired movement of the petroleum. This practice has its drawbacks because it not only tends to waste gas but it subsequently lessens the chance of recover ing much of the oil which finds its way into the gas sand and not toward the shot holes of the wells. The yield of a well may be increased considerably by recourse to gas pumping. As just described. The benefits are as a rule but temporary; and this method of stimulation would not be at all profitable if it were not for the greater measure of gasoline that can be obtained from the gas that is thus enriched by contact with the oil. Excerpt from Compressed Air Magazine, Vol. 26: August, 1921 While the company does not attempt to fore cast 1921 results, it is understood that its cur rent production is running at the rate of from 400 to 500 ounces of platinum per week, and from 50 to 100 ounces of gold. The region under review is tropical and torrential rains occasionally cause heavy ﬂoods. After every ﬂood new values are found, show ing that enrichment is still in progress from the mother lode up in the mountains. But the greatest values lie against the bed rock from ten to 30 feet below the bottom of the rivers. Only modern dredges can reach this gravel, and the bed rock is soft enough to be cut - the buckets digging into it from six to eight inches, bringing up all possible values with a minimum of waste.
