Computational Modeling Of Project Organizations Under Stress written by John Dillard and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Organizational behavior--Psychological aspects categories.

An organization's operational structure can either enable or hinder its capability to plan and implement projects. This article examines--via computational models--a study that shows how organizations can improve project performance by changing their organization's structure. In doing so, it defines the study's approach (computational organization theory, or COT) and its methodology (virtual design team, or VDT), describing how the authors modeled and simulated the behavior of organizations under stress, such as those associated with the United States Department of Defense's (DoD) weapons system programs. It reviews the field's literature on three areas that are most relevant to this study; it describes the study's research design, summarizing the foundation and limitations of the three concepts--agent-based (VDT) modeling environment, computational organizational model, and experimental design--that that the authors used to inform their study on the dynamics shaping organizational behavior, concepts which organizations can use to identify those personnel concerns and behaviors that are considered common and those that are considered rare. It then explains the results of the study's computational experiment, detailing how the structural forms used by three hypothetical organizations--varying in degrees of hierarchy, centralization, formalization, autonomy, and empowerment--affects the way each organization performs while implementing projects.

Computational Modeling For Industrial Organizational Psychologists written by Jeffrey B. Vancouver and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-11-02 with Psychology categories.

This collection provides a primer to the process and promise of computational modeling for industrial-organizational psychologists. With contributions by global experts in the field, the book is designed to expand readers’ appreciation for computational modeling via chapters focused on key modeling achievements in domains relevant to industrial-organizational psychology, including decision making in organizations, diversity and inclusion, learning and training, leadership, and teams. To move the use of computational modeling forward, the book includes specific how-to-chapters on two of the most commonly used modeling approaches: agent-based modeling and system dynamics modeling. It also gives guidance on how to evaluate these models qualitatively and quantitatively, and offers advice on how to read, review, and publish papers with computational models. The authors provide an extensive description of the myriad of values computational modeling can bring to the field, highlighting how they offer a more transparent, precise way to represent theories and can be simulated to offer a test of the internal consistency of a theory and allow for predictions. This is accompanied by an overview of the history of computational modeling as it relates to I-O psychology. Throughout, the authors reflect on computational modeling’s journey, looking back to its history as they imagine its future in I-O psychology. Each contribution demonstrates the value and opportunities computational modeling can provide the individual researcher, research teams, and fields of I-O psychology and management. This volume is an ideal resource for anyone interested in computational modeling, from scholarly consumers to computational model creators.

Today's military missions have shifted away from fighting nation states using conventional weapons toward combating insurgents and terrorist networks in a battlespace in which the attitudes and behaviors of civilian noncombatants may be the primary effects of military actions. To support these new missions, the military services are increasingly interested in using models of the behavior of humans, as individuals and in groups of various kinds and sizes. Behavioral Modeling and Simulation reviews relevant individual, organizational, and societal (IOS) modeling research programs, evaluates the strengths and weaknesses of the programs and their methodologies, determines which have the greatest potential for military use, and provides guidance for the design of a research program to effectively foster the development of IOS models useful to the military. This book will be of interest to model developers, operational military users of the models and their managers, and government personnel making funding decisions regarding model development.

This book addresses patient-specific modeling. It integrates computational modeling, experimental procedures, imagine clinical segmentation and mesh generation with the finite element method (FEM) to solve problems in computational biomedicine and bioengineering. Specific areas of interest include cardiovascular problems, ocular and muscular systems and soft tissue modeling. Patient-specific modeling has been the subject of serious research over the last seven years and interest in the area is continually growing and this area is expected to further develop in the near future.
