Con gli occhi del cuore è una raccolta che è frutto di due esperienze che hanno lasciato un segno nella vita della De Maestri: la morte-distacco dal padre e la nascita del figlio. Sono due esperienze segnate dall’amore inteso come “sentire che sa di eterno” e perciò sconfigge sia thanatos sia chronos. L’amore, nella definizione che la poetessa ci fornisce in L’amore è..., è un sentire che l’essere umano che ama vive nel suo profondo, nelle radici del suo essere. Questo riporta al primo verso, “L’amore è un albero sempreverde”: come l’albero, l’amore ha le radici, il tronco, i rami e le foglie. Tale figura presa dal mondo vegetale ricorda l’uomo nella sua trascendenza: muore fisicamente, ma lascia la prole come eredi.
