Principles for Management of Fisheries and Wildlife: The Manager as Decision-maker is a unique introductory text that explains critical theories and principles of management and how to apply these successfully to real-world fisheries and wildlife situations and issues. Readers learn about management paradigms, decision-making frameworks and skills, planning for success, and ethics - all taught in the context of fisheries and wildlife issues such as habitat management, human-wildlife conflict, managing over-abundant and at-risk species, and harvest regulations. Each chapter includes guiding outcomes, terms and definitions and critical thinking questions. Opening problems and closing case studies provide opportunities for application of both ecological and management knowledge and skills. Readers also benefit from learning about international models of wildlife management. Rooted in the belief that biological and ecological knowledge can only be enhanced by sound management, planning, and decision-making skills, the book prepares biologists to be successful managers and leaders. Principles for Management of Fisheries and Wildlife is an outstanding textbook for introductory courses in the discipline. Larkin Powell earned his Ph.D. in ecology at the University of Georgia and is a professor in the School of Natural Resources at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he also serves as director of the Great Plains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit. Dr. Powell's research program focuses on landscape dynamics, animal demography and movements, and decisions made by private landowners. He has written dozens of journal articles and authored, coauthored, or contributed to six books. In addition to writing and work with the university, Dr. Powell is a member of the Board of Governors of the Center for Great Plains Studies. He is the recipient of the 2019 Excellence in Wildlife Education Award.

Natural Resource Administration written by C. West Churchman and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-03-04 with Political Science categories.

Successful natural resource administration demands the well-exercised ability to deal with the interests of many actors--including the public and wildlife--in a balanced, constructive way. The authors of this book, recognized as experts in the management of natural resources, discuss management with special emphasis on fish and other wildlife. Their approach to management development constantly searches for creative compromises that protect today's wildlife for future generations while maximizing present social and economic benefits. Their comprehensive treatment also includes a discussion of such topics as the interaction of human management of wildlife with natural regulation of wildlife; the need for sound research and development programs; the importance of public participation in the management of natural resources; and the political and administrative context in which resource management must take place.

In recognition of ever increasing public pressure to hunt and fish on Army Installations, it was determined that a study of Army fish and wildlife management practices would be timely. Specific study objectives were to examine current Army management concepts, policies, and practices in the preservation and propagation of fish and wildlife on Army Installations. Through research of applicable publications and detailed survey of five different installations, the study sought to identify program strengths and weaknesses, assess program potential, and recommend change if deemed appropriate. Conclusions were that the Army fish and wildlife program is poorly managed and requires major overhaul if it is to meet the demands of the future. Potential for Army embarrassment and possible legal sanctions exist. Recommendations include further study, appointment of program manager, and immediate remedial measures to correct current resource reporting and financial accounting procedures. (Author).

Models For Planning Wildlife Conservation In Large Landscapes written by Joshua Millspaugh and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-04-28 with Science categories.

A single-resource volume of information on the most current and effective techniques of wildlife modeling, Models for Planning Wildlife Conservation in Large Landscapes is appropriate for students and researchers alike. The unique blend of conceptual, methodological, and application chapters discusses research, applications and concepts of modeling and presents new ideas and strategies for wildlife habitat models used in conservation planning. The book makes important contributions to wildlife conservation of animals in several ways: (1) it highlights historical and contemporary advancements in the development of wildlife habitat models and their implementation in conservation planning; (2) it provides practical advice for the ecologist conducting such studies; and (3) it supplies directions for future research including new strategies for successful studies.Intended to provide a recipe for successful development of wildlife habitat models and their implementation in conservation planning, the book could be used in studying wildlife habitat models, conservation planning, and management techniques. Additionally it may be a supplemental text in courses dealing with quantitative assessment of wildlife populations. Additionally, the length of the book would be ideal for graduate student seminar course.Using wildlife habitat models in conservation planning is of considerable interest to wildlife biologists. With ever tightening budgets for wildlife research and planning activities, there is a growing need to use computer methods. Use of simulation models represents the single best alternative. However, it is imperative that these techniques be described in a single source. Moreover, biologists should be made aware of alternative modeling techniques. It is also important that practical guidance be provided to biologists along with a demonstration of utility of these procedures. Currently there is little guidance in the wildlife or natural resource planning literature on how best to incorporate wildlife planning activities, particularly community-based approaches. Now is the perfect time for a synthestic publication that clearly outlines the concepts and available methods, and illustrates them. Only single resource book of information not only on various wildlife modeling techniques, but also with practical guidance on the demonstrated utility of each based on real-world conditions. Provides concepts, methods and applications for wildlife ecologists and others within a GIS context. Written by a team of subject-area experts
