What started as a simple internet search for Ironmaster movie star and bodybuilder, Sam Pasco, and what had happened to him, ended in the author's deeper understanding of why things are the way they are in our American society with respect to civil rights. Discovered along the way was Pasco's great-grandfather, also named Sam Pasco, a Confederate Civil War hero and United States Senator from Florida, alive during the emancipation of African Americans - who share a common struggle with gays against oppression, from the slave revolt at Harpers Ferry in 1859 to the gay riots at Stonewall in 1969. Professional researcher, analyst and statistician Tim McElhinny is your guide, peppered with his humorous and heartfelt dialogue and probing insight into the political nature of civil rights in our American society from the Civil War to modern times for two of our nation's most oppressed populations - gays and African Americans, who represent 3.5 percent and 13 percent of the U.S. population, or in other words, tens of millions of people. Join him as he takes you on his odyssey of unlocking the mysterious past of Sam Pasco after a chance viewing of a long-forgotten copy of the cult classic movie, Ironmaster. Painstakingly researched through archival sources and personal accounts from those who knew both Pascos, he will both entertain and enlighten you on the history of civil rights in America, perhaps even inspire you to chronicle a biographical journey of your own invention.

Male Confessions examines how men open their intimate lives and thoughts to the public through confessional writing. This book examines writings—by St. Augustine, a Jewish ghetto policeman, an imprisoned Nazi perpetrator, and a gay American theologian—that reflect sincere attempts at introspective and retrospective self-investigation, often triggered by some wounding or rupture and followed by a transformative experience. Krondorfer takes seriously the vulnerability exposed in male self-disclosure while offering a critique of the religious and gendered rhetoric employed in such discourse. The religious imagination, he argues, allows men to talk about their intimate, flawed, and sinful selves without having to condemn themselves or to fear self-erasure. Herein lies the greatest promise of these confessions: by baring their souls to judgment, these writers may also transcend their self-imprisonment.

Confessions of an American is the story of a young man coming to terms with the world in which he lives. With a sensitive heart and an adventurous soul, he begins his journey inward to the very depths of the self. Through turmoil and excess, he is able to submerge himself in a demented state of awareness, an ultra-sensitive space for experimentation and growth. He readily partakes in all that is put in front of him. But his massive consumption only leaves him hungry and exposed to the cold, feral winds and unforgiving European tongues. We follow him through the story of love, through the misread signpost, and through the nationalistic emotions that can only be so strong when one is on foreign soil.William Hancock's story is the voice of American the 21st Century, of an unstable America as seen through the eyes of the world -- but the America in which he lives, nonetheless. It is the story of a young, innocent man becoming a thoughtful world traveler. It is a book of revolution on a personal level, through the confrontation of demons. With a solid mind and quizzical nature William finds himself able to forge his own paths. He struggles at putting one foot in front of the other, at recreating the world he lives in. This is a book of sexual exploits, of the young man who is discovering his own sexual being -- a time for rejoicing and a time for experimentation. Confessions of an American is a story of the human condition. Through William Hancock's story we are able to reflect on our own lives, our choices, idiosyncrasies, secrets, regrets and forgotten lives. William Hancock III is a hero of our time, a martyr placing himself in the midst of ridicule.

What They Did To The Kid written by Jack Fritscher and has been published by Palm Drive Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

"What They Did to the Kid" is a memoir spinning as a comic novel for general-fiction readers intrigued by boys' school tales, and baby boomers who "survived Catholic school." Ryan O'Hara, coming of age from 14 to 24, is the wise adolescent narrating readers' entry into the secret culture of 1950's altar boys who go to the seminary, meet priests, and must decide their own identities. The novel's interior ticking covers the clock and calendar of boys' emerging consciences and edgy consciousness. "The San Francisco Chronicle" says, "Jack Fritscher reads gloriously." Strong characters and snappy dialog propel the character-driven plot of male-dominant pecking order. At Misericordia Seminary (aptly nicknamed "Misery"), Ryan O'Hara exposes his own story. He's trapped for oxygen-with 500 other boys-by the imperial Rector Karg, the disciplinarian Father Gunn "of the USMC," the tart Father Polistina, and the rebel-priest Chris Dryden "who knows Fellini and JFK." The storytelling Irish-American author gives each ensemble character-hero or villain, student or priest, man or woman-a rich back story. Black civil rights of the 60's as well as three interesting women characters open this tale out of the suffocating seminary and on to the hot streets of Chicago's South Side and Old Town. The compelling psychological drama hinges on the very source and aspirations of priestly vocation versus self-esteem. "Is God calling me-and what about chastity? Or is it just the 'Bali Hai' of blind ambition and social climbing-and what about sex?" Fritscher makes deeper than usual sense of soulful coming-of-age material. The hearty supply of boarding school episodes cumulatively reveals the dueling dynamic between the boyish protagonist, Ryan O'Hara, and the callous ambition of the handsome bully, Tank Rimsky, as they fight toward the finish line of "manly men's" ordination to the priesthood. "The hardest thing to be in America today is a man." The novel is based on an under-reported story: the Catholic Church recruited 200,000 boys into seminaries in the 1950's. Only 20,000 were ordained. "Kid" details, in a nostalgic and not unkind take what happened to the missing 180,000 boys and the women and men in their families. Daring to step inside Catholic culture, without being parochial, this American story reveals the 1950's roots of 21st-century "recovering Catholic" panic and angst. The millions of post-Catholic baby boomers who have exited the Church will compare notes and laugh knowingly at the dead-on characterizations. Fashionably anti-Catholic campers will say, "but, of course " Readers might catalog "Kid" in the genre of "Young Torless, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man," and "Lord of the Flies." Before now, no one of the surviving 180,000 ex-seminarians has dared reveal this insider confession on the secret milieu of the Catholic education of priests. From interviews with more than a hundred former seminarians, Jack Fritscher uniquely stages their true story arcs with wit, verve, and comedy. "What They Did to the Kid" is the fourth novel from Jack Fritscher whose twelve books have sold more than 100,000 copies. Jack Fritscher is a graduate of the prestigious Pontifical College Josephinum, a Roman Catholic seminary, located in Columbus, Ohio, and directly subject to the Vatican in Rome. He received his doctorate in American Literature from Loyola University, Chicago.
