The Confidence Map written by Peter Atwater and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-25 with Business & Economics categories.

A groundbreaking framework for making better decisions by understanding – and mastering – confidence. What does our desire for certainty and control have to do with our decision-making? According to behavioral economics pioneer Peter Atwater, the answer is simple: everything. In The Confidence Map, Atwater explores the hidden role of confidence in the choices we make, and why events described as being unprecedented are often entirely predictable—if we know what to look for. Using compelling stories from the past and present, Atwater shows readers how to apply the same tools he teaches the world’s leading institutional investors, corporations, and policymakers to help them make sense of complex situations and optimize strategy. You will learn: • How psychological distance consistently affects the choices we make • Why "Me-Here-Now" decision-making is such a powerful force • What happens at confidence peaks that leads to our downfall • The five ways we respond to extreme vulnerability • When consumers' feelings of certainty and control - not price - drive demand The Confidence Map is a book about why we do what we do, where we can and cannot trust our natural instincts, and how we can make sense of a world that too often feels senseless. Whether you’re investing in technology stocks, designing menu items for a fast-food franchise, or running an emergency room, Atwater offers an all-weather guide to avoid psychological traps, spot opportunities, and navigate the road ahead with clarity and purpose.

Explains the four dimensions of effective leadership for leaders in the public sphere There is a wealth of advice available for corporate leaders, but little in the way of leadership guidance for those in government agencies. Leading Forward fills that gap by providing a development framework and assessment tool based on the four dimensions of effective leadership—empowerment, fairness, leaders, and supervisors. These four dimensions are critical competencies that leaders must develop in order to succeed now and in the future. Based on years of working with agency leaders at all levels of government and the latest assessment data from the Office of Personnel Management, this practical resource includes a review of the current core leadership competencies and a detailed look at the gaps between actual and expected execution. Offers unique and uncommon leadership guidance for those in the public sector Includes examples, exercises, techniques, and case studies, as well as interviews with past and current leaders Ideal for government agency executives and students in leadership and professional development programs Leading effectively in a government agency is different than leading in the private sphere. Leading Forward offers a practical and effective framework for developing great leaders for the public good.

Preserving Order Amid Chaos written by John Rhodes Paige and has been published by Berghahn Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000 with Education categories.

To say that education in Africa is under stress is all to obvious. News reports from that continent seem to describe only war and violence, poverty and malnutrition, corruption and mismanagement, or natural disasters that destroy or threaten already frail infrastructures - most news from Africa is bad news. When an education system survives in a country like Uganda, long subjected to the whims of despotic leadership, it warrants an investigation. This book tells the story of four senior secondary schools during a time of war and intractable social conflict, examining a complex topic through multiple perspectives such as documentary history, oral history, ethnography, and organization theory. The author develops a broad picture of the Amin/Obote years and the accompanying political and social chaos in Uganda, while at the same time filling in the crucial details essential for developing an understanding of school survival in the Kaborole District. The author's intensive field work gives this study a unique dimension: by preserving a record of African voices - students, teachers, parents, alumni, board members, community leaders - a rich tableau of theh local conditions for school survival emerges. At the same time the discussion is situated within the larger Ugandan historical and political context, thus offering an excellent example of the application of multiple research perspectives to a complex social, cultural and political setting.
