While considering this subject, reference will be made to other matters, which are related to and influence the investment market of our country, and I shall also lay stress on some points, which I believe have not been mentioned by other writers. Readers of these notes may say that I, being a railroad man, am prejudiced. However, I offer my observations, hoping they will prove of some worth. IS there any achievement more helpful to the Nation than the building of a railroad; opening up a virgin territory; devel oping a new country; making farm lands advance in value from five to thirty dollars an acre; for cin g new towns to spring up, where happy, healthyschool children greet us; witnessing the division into farms of great territories heretofore devoted to ranching? NO occupation could be more grat ifying than this, which brings with it the feeling that through the power which God has given us, we have been able to create homes for thousands of settlers; we have been able to watch the young men, with a few hundred dollars, venture forth into a virgin country, soon becoming prosperous merchants or successful business men; and to witness the growth Of these newly-risen towns to three or five thousands of inhabitants, with schools and prosperous business establishments.
