In Confidence Culture, Shani Orgad and Rosalind Gill argue that imperatives directed at women to “love your body” and “believe in yourself” imply that psychological blocks rather than entrenched social injustices hold women back. Interrogating the prominence of confidence in contemporary discourse about body image, workplace, relationships, motherhood, and international development, Orgad and Gill draw on Foucault’s notion of technologies of self to demonstrate how “confidence culture” demands of women near-constant introspection and vigilance in the service of self-improvement. They argue that while confidence messaging may feel good, it does not address structural and systemic oppression. Rather, confidence culture suggests that women—along with people of color, the disabled, and other marginalized groups—are responsible for their own conditions. Rejecting confidence culture’s remaking of feminism along individualistic and neoliberal lines, Orgad and Gill explore alternative articulations of feminism that go beyond the confidence imperative.

In the twenty-first-century workplace, women are encouraged to step up, lean in, take charge, go for it . . . yet how much has actually changed regarding the makeup of leadership when it comes to adding women’s voices? While it's easy to still blame a corporate culture that favors men, seasoned executive Grace Killelea identifies another culprit: a surprising disparity in confidence--with men typically prone to overestimate their abilities, and women too often selling themselves short. For real change to take place within the workforce when it comes to adding more women’s voices within leadership, we must get beyond knowing that we simply have the ability as women to speak out, take risks, and fill leadership positions; we must become more confident that we can do those things with excellence! The Confidence Effect moves beyond research, statistics, and cheerleading, and focuses on what’s really important: how women can become more confident, one step at a time. While developing the four Rs of Success--relationships, reputation, results, and resilience--women will learn how best to:• Build circles of influence• Seize opportunities they normally avoid• Leverage and promote their skills• Cultivate executive presence• Bounce back from setbacks• And moreYou’ve been encouraged to get in the game your entire life, yet you remain on the sidelines. Why? Become more confident in who you are and what you can do, and claim the success you deserve!

Not only do we need more female leaders at the top, but we need more women at all levels of business, government, and nonprofits to step up—there's no time to waste. The problem, says Helene Lerner, isn't so much that women lack confidence but that they misunderstand what confidence really is. True confidence isn't fearlessness; it's having the courage to jump in even when your knees are shaking. Any woman who waits until she feels 100 percent confident before offering a big idea or asking for a raise or promotion will never get anywhere. Drawing on her own and other female leaders' experiences, as well as on her survey of over 500 working women, Lerner lays out practical strategies for beating this confidence myth and overcoming obstacles like gender bias. The book features dozens of Confidence Sparks, simple but powerful exercises and techniques that can catapult anyone's career to the next level.

Women And Confidence In The Workplace written by Kelsey Evelyn Perkins and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with categories.

Research has shown that women in leadership face a prominent "Confidence Gap" in the workplace, are concentrated in lower levels of management, and have higher turnover intentions, as well as shorter organizational tenures. In order to remedy these issues, it is highly recommended that organizations provide explicit access to developmental opportunities to boost the confidence and other attitudinal outcomes of women facing todays "Confidence Gap". The purpose of this study was to integrate practice and science in order to assess the link between the confidence enablers derived from Bandura's theory of self-efficacy (i.e., high-potential programs, developmental assignments, formal training, and mentoring relationships) on workplace confidence and other important attitudinal outcomes. It was found that controlling for organizational level and tenure, access to high-potential programs, developmental assignments, and mentoring relationships were associated with weak to small positive correlations with confidence, while quality of these opportunities in addition to mentoring relationships also exhibited weak to small positive correlations with confidence. This study also assessed consequences of workplace confidence. Confidence was found to be significantly related to moderate increases in job satisfaction, role engagement, and learning transfer, as well as small decreases in turnover intentions. Finally, the extent to which confidence mediates the relationship between workplace confidence enablers and outcomes was examined. Results found that access to both high-potential programs and mentoring relationships, in relation to other developmental opportunities, does indirectly influence attitudinal outcomes such as turnover intentions through increased levels of confidence and job satisfaction. This study contributes to organizations' understanding of women in the workplace, and how to address one of the largest individual barriers to women's advancement-reduced self-confidence.
