Quando la adagia sul letto, dalla sua borsa scivola una busta piena di contanti: sono moltissimi soldi. Dopo qualche giorno, così com'era apparsa, Simona, la ragazza misteriosa, scompare all'improvviso, ma la magia e l'intensità di quell'incontro non se ne vanno con lei. Morgan vuole ritrovarla. Qualcosa in quello che lei gli ha raccontato ha risvegliato in lui memorie assopite. Davvero è successo tutto per caso? E quali sono gli affari che Simona porta avanti in Congo insieme al fratello che, sfuggente come lei, gira al volante di una Maserati rossa? Mentre cerca di scoprire chi sia veramente la donna che ha salvato dal gelo, Morgan non si accorge che la sua indagine sull'identità altrui lo sta portando molto vicino alle proprie radici, alla sua stessa storia, così indissolubilmente legata al dramma del colonialismo.

The rich, complex lives of African Americans in Texas were often neglected by the mainstream media, which historically seldom ventured into Houston's Fourth Ward, San Antonio's East Side, South Dallas, or the black neighborhoods in smaller cities.
