Constelación Buñuel es una propuesta de lectura de la historia, pero sobre todo de la estética del cine mexicano producido a partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XX y que en buena medida alcanza nuestra contemporaneidad. La impronta de Buñuel al cine de este país tiene que ver con una cierta herida que su cinematografía hace a la imagen del cine nacional (al de la épica nacionalista y al del melodrama social).
