A selection of 21 contributions from invited speakers treat advanced topics at the interface between mathematics and physics. Most are high-level research papers, but some overview their topics, among which are growth and saturation in random media, the maximal dissipativity of the Dirichlet operator corresponding to the Burgers equation, the square of the self-intersection local time of Brownian motion, the spectral theory of sparse potentials, and diffusions on simple configuration spaces. Additional short contributions pay tribute to Swiss-born physicist Albeverio. A second volume presents selected volunteer papers. There is no index. Variational analysis is a fruitful area in mathematics that, on one hand, deals with the study of optimization and equilibrium problems and, on the other hand, applies optimization, perturbation, and approximation ideas to the analysis of a broad range of problems that may not be of a variational nature. This monograph in 2 volumes contains a comprehensive and state-of-the art study of the basic concepts and principles of variational analysis and generalized differentiation in both finite-dimensional and infinite-dimensional spaces and presents numerous applications to problems in optimization, equilibria, stability and sensitivity, control theory, economics, mechanics, etc. The first volume is devoted to the basic theory of variational analysis and generalized differentiations, while the second volume describes various applications. Both volumes include abundant bibliographies and extensive commentaries.

Perturbation Analysis Of Optimization Problems written by J.Frederic Bonnans and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-22 with Mathematics categories.

The main subject of this book is perturbation analysis of continuous optimization problems. In the last two decades considerable progress has been made in that area, and it seems that it is time now to present a synthetic view of many important results that apply to various classes of problems. The model problem that is considered throughout the book is of the form (P) Min/(x) subjectto G(x) E K. xeX Here X and Y are Banach spaces, K is a closed convex subset of Y, and / : X -+ IR and G : X -+ Y are called the objective function and the constraint mapping, respectively. We also consider a parameteriZed version (P ) of the above u problem, where the objective function / (x, u) and the constraint mapping G(x, u) are parameterized by a vector u varying in a Banach space U. Our aim is to study continuity and differentiability properties of the optimal value v(u) and the set S(u) of optimal solutions of (P ) viewed as functions of the parameter vector u.

Inherently Parallel Algorithms In Feasibility And Optimization And Their Applications written by D. Butnariu and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-06-18 with Mathematics categories.

The Haifa 2000 Workshop on "Inherently Parallel Algorithms for Feasibility and Optimization and their Applications" brought together top scientists in this area. The objective of the Workshop was to discuss, analyze and compare the latest developments in this fast growing field of applied mathematics and to identify topics of research which are of special interest for industrial applications and for further theoretical study.Inherently parallel algorithms, that is, computational methods which are, by their mathematical nature, parallel, have been studied in various contexts for more than fifty years. However, it was only during the last decade that they have mostly proved their practical usefulness because new generations of computers made their implementation possible in order to solve complex feasibility and optimization problems involving huge amounts of data via parallel processing. These led to an accumulation of computational experience and theoretical information and opened new and challenging questions concerning the behavior of inherently parallel algorithms for feasibility and optimization, their convergence in new environments and in circumstances in which they were not considered before their stability and reliability. Several research groups all over the world focused on these questions and it was the general feeling among scientists involved in this effort that the time has come to survey the latest progress and convey a perspective for further development and concerted scientific investigations. Thus, the editors of this volume, with the support of the Israeli Academy for Sciences and Humanities, took the initiative of organizing a Workshop intended to bring together the leading scientists in the field. The current volume is the Proceedings of the Workshop representing the discussions, debates and communications that took place. Having all that information collected in a single book will provide mathematicians and engineers interested in the theoretical and practical aspects of the inherently parallel algorithms for feasibility and optimization with a tool for determining when, where and which algorithms in this class are fit for solving specific problems, how reliable they are, how they behave and how efficient they were in previous applications. Such a tool will allow software creators to choose ways of better implementing these methods by learning from existing experience.

Convex Analysis And Beyond written by Boris S. Mordukhovich and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-24 with Mathematics categories.

This book presents a unified theory of convex functions, sets, and set-valued mappings in topological vector spaces with its specifications to locally convex, Banach and finite-dimensional settings. These developments and expositions are based on the powerful geometric approach of variational analysis, which resides on set extremality with its characterizations and specifications in the presence of convexity. Using this approach, the text consolidates the device of fundamental facts of generalized differential calculus to obtain novel results for convex sets, functions, and set-valued mappings in finite and infinite dimensions. It also explores topics beyond convexity using the fundamental machinery of convex analysis to develop nonconvex generalized differentiation and its applications. The text utilizes an adaptable framework designed with researchers as well as multiple levels of students in mind. It includes many exercises and figures suited to graduate classes in mathematical sciences that are also accessible to advanced students in economics, engineering, and other applications. In addition, it includes chapters on convex analysis and optimization in finite-dimensional spaces that will be useful to upper undergraduate students, whereas the work as a whole provides an ample resource to mathematicians and applied scientists, particularly experts in convex and variational analysis, optimization, and their applications.
