Las técnicas pedagógicas de Célestin Freinet penetraron en España y se extendieron rápidamente a finales de los años veinte del pasado siglo y durante la Segunda República Española. La guerra civil y posterior triunfo del bando fascista llevó a la muerte o al exilio a muchos de los seguidores del maestro y pedagogo francés, introductor de la imprenta en la escuela. A finales de los años sesenta, la pedagogía Freinet vuelve con fuerza a nuestras escuelas de la mano de muchos educadores, la mayoría jóvenes, deseosos de poner en marcha una escuela de calidad, democrática y con un sentido profundamente social. Esta preocupación por mejorar la escuela les lleva a crear el Movimiento Cooperativo de Escuela Popular (MCEP), un colectivo pedagógico que fue implantándose en todas las autonomías y que actualmente sigue trabajando por mejorar la educación en España. Porque aquella lucha continúa. Esperamos que algún día la sociedad y nuestros políticos consideren la educación como una cuestión de Estado y el sistema educativo se convierta, definitivamente, en una herramienta que haga florecer los talentos e inteligencias que los niños y las niñas poseen. En el 50o aniversario de la muerte de Célestin Freinet ofrecemos el testimonio de 55 educadores y educadoras, en representación de un colectivo que concibe la educación como un compromiso.
