Resultados de investigaciones y experiencias comunitarias latinoamericanas y europeas sobre los conflictos territoriales, sociales y ecológicos asociados a las relaciones entre campo y ciudad fueron los temas propuestos para el desarrollo de las jornadas de "GeoRaizAl", realizadas en cooperación académica con el programa de Geografía y el área de Conflicto del el D, de la nivcrsidad Externado de olombia. además del Instituto de Geografía de la Universidad de Hamburgo. Dichos resultados estan contenidos en el presente volumen. Las jornadas han buscado dinamizar una red de geografías críticas de raíz latinoamericana que promueva una perspectiva crítica y decolonial para pensar activamente marcos conceptuales arraigados a lugares y comunidades configuradas en los procesos geo-históricos, configurados estos a su vez en las realidades latinoamericanas, reconociendo estrechas relaciones con el sistema mundo moderno colonial que estableció el eurocentrismo y logicas de colonialismo interno que hacen necesaria la rclcctura de muchos patrones incor porados. entre ello. las dicotomías entre lo urbano y lo rural. los trabajos aquí presentados conforman una mistura cuyo principal ingrediente son los alimentos las diferentes instancias institucionales comunitarias y comerciales establecidas con lo alimentario desde diversas dimensiones: voces y experiencias que describen los conflictos socio ecologico entre el campo y la ciudad junto a las posibilidades de reconocimiento de territorios y circuitos agroalimentarios, asi como alternativas agroecologicas y procesos de fortalecimiento comunitario que enseñan caminos de esperanza, paz y resistencia. Las protagonistas de este libro son todas las personas cultivadoras que buscan el acceso a los suelos, a las semillas y al agua, así mismo los alimentos que circulan por manos y economías cuidadoras de los comensales y de lo que nos alimenta. Es una exploración de posibilidades para "la garantía progresiva del derecho a la alimentación" postergada pero considerada en el punto uno del Acuerdo para la terminación del conflicto y la construcción de una paz estable y duradera.

The world's demand for food is expected to double within the next 50 years, while the natural resources that sustain agriculture will become increasingly scarce, degraded, and vulnerable to the effects of climate change. In many poor countries, agriculture accounts for at least 40 percent of GDP and 80 percent of employment. At the same time, about 70 percent of the world's poor live in rural areas and most depend on agriculture for their livelihoods. 'World Development Report 2008' seeks to assess where, when, and how agriculture can be an effective instrument for economic development, especially development that favors the poor. It examines several broad questions: How has agriculture changed in developing countries in the past 20 years? What are the important new challenges and opportunities for agriculture? Landscapes are frequently seen as fragments of natural habitat surrounded by a 'sea' of agriculture. But recent ecological theory shows that the nature of these fragments is not nearly as important for conservation as is the nature of the matrix of agriculture that surrounds them. Local extinctions from conservation fragments are inevitable and must be balanced by migrations if massive extinction is to be avoided. High migration rates only occur in what the authors refer to as 'high quality' matrices, which are created by alternative agroecological techniques, as opposed to the industrial monocultural model of agriculture. The authors argue that the only way to promote such high quality matrices is to work with rural social movements. Their ideas are at odds with the major trends of some of the large conservation organizations that emphasize targeted land purchases of protected areas. They argue that recent advances in ecological research make such a general approach anachronistic and call, rather, for solidarity with the small farmers around the world who are currently struggling to attain food sovereignty.Nature's Matrix proposes a radically new approach to the conservation of biodiversity based on recent advances in the science of ecology plus political realities, particularly in the world's tropical regions.
