L'exorcisme, d'Alexandra Cuadrat Aniversari, d'Andrea Jofre El botó del pànic, d'en Pep Prieto La remuntada, de l'Adrià Pujol Cruells El 1816, Lord Byron va llogar la vil·la Diodati, prop del llac Leman, per passar-hi una temporada i va convidar tres amics: el poeta Percy Shelley, la seva futura esposa Mary, i el doctor Polidori. 1816 es coneix a Europa com l'any sense estiu. Les erupcions del Tambora van tenir conseqüències climàtiques arreu del món. La pluja incessant i les vetllades de tempesta van incitar els quatre personatges a explicar-se i escriure relats de terror. D'aquestes nits neix El vampir, de Polidori; un malson inspira Mary Shelley a escriure un clàssic de la literatura universal amb un dels personatges més icònics de la cultura popular: Frankenstein o el modern Prometeu, novel·la publicada el 1818. El petit poble de Torrebesses no té llac i els estius hi són tòrrids i secs però, entre el seu notable conjunt arquitectònic, destaca una construcció monumental, el Castell palau, considerat Bé Cultural d'Interès Nacional amb mil anys d'història. Aquest casalot imponent reflecteix cada tardor l'ombra de Vil·la Diodati. L'editorial Apostroph hi tanca durant un cap de setmana quatre escriptors amb el repte de crear cadascú un conte terrorífic inspirat en el mateix castell o en el poble de Torrebesses, ple de llegendes relacionades amb les bruixes.

D'aquestes fèrtils nits d'estiu neix El vampir de Polidori, com a expansió d'un relat inacabat de Lord Byron. I, arran d'un malson, Mary Shelley comença a gestar una de les obres clàssiques de la literatura universal i d'un dels personatges més icònics de la cultura popular: Frankenstein o el modern Prometeu, novel·la publicada precisament el 1818, enguany fa 200 anys. El petit poble de Torrebesses, al sud-est de la comarca del Segrià, no té llac i els estius hi són tòrrids i secs però, entre el seu notable conjunt arquitectònic, destaca una construcció monumental tant o més seductora que la mansió suïssa. A la part més elevada del poble s'alça el castell palau de Torrebesses considerat Bé Cultural d'Interès Nacional (BCIN). El castell té mil anys d'història al darrere. A la segona planta hi ha la capella barroca de la Concepció, l'antic oratori dels cartoixans d'Escaladei que van romandre més de quatre segles al poble. Durant la Guerra Civil espanyola, el castell es va habilitar com a Hospital de la Sang per guarir els ferits en la contesa. Hi van morir 260 soldats italians que van ser enterrats al cementiri local. Al segle XX, l'edifici va ser utilitzat com a escola i, fins i tot, com a granja d'aviram just abans de ser transformat en l'allotjament rural ple d'encant que és avui. Aquest casalot imponent reflecteix cada tardor l'ombra de Vil·la Diodati. L'Editorial Apostroph hi tanca durant un cap de setmana quatre escriptors amb el repte de crear cadascú un conte terrorífic inspirat en el mateix castell o en el poble de Torrebesses, ple de llegendes relacionades amb les bruixes. Una d'aquestes llegendes diu que, a l'edat mitjana, les nits de lluna plena, als voltants de la torre de l'homenatge del castell, les bruixes practicaven els seus vols nocturns llançant crits estridents que terroritzaven els camperols. L'octubre de 2017, Mario Urrea, l'alcalde de Torrebesses, va donar el tret de sortida a la segona edició del Festival de Literatura de Terror de Catalunya, Torrebesses Tremola. Els quatre escriptors escollits per tancar-se al castell són els autors d'aquest llibre. Pere Cervantes, Quim Garcia Albero, Toni Hill i Anna Maria Villalonga han tingut la gentilesa d'acceptar el repte que han acomplert magníficament. Els seus contes aterridors confirmen que el poble de Torrebesses ofereix els indrets idonis per inspirar-se i escriure històries inquietants, plenes de misteri. Un lloc perfecte per a la commemoració de la fructífera reunió literària de Vil·la Diodati. Gràcies a la gent que creu en l'originalitat, a les persones com Mario Urrea que estan a l'altura, Torrebesses es declara poble de la literatura de terror de Catalunya.

No n'hi ha hagut i les misses estan prohibides durant els dies en els quals el confinament és més estricte. Les llibreries estan tancades, ningú crema llibres —si més no, de moment— però quan puguin tornar a obrir potser hem de lamentar massa persianes abaixades per sempre.
