Edition intégrale des trois volumes "Contes populaires de Basse-Bretagne" de François-Marie Luzel, Folkloriste breton, et poète en langue bretonne (1821-1895). Avec les trois volumes de ces contes, nous tenons en main l'oeuvre majeure de Luzel dans le domaine du conte, et certainement le chef-d'oeuvre du conte en Bretagne. Luzel y livre la somme de vingt ans de recherches. Extrait : Tous mes contes ont d'abord été recueillis dans la langue où ils m'ont été contés, c'est-à-dire en breton. Je les reproduisais, sous la dictée des conteurs, puis je les repassais plus tard à l'encre, sur la mine de plomb du crayon, enfin, je les mettais au net et les traduisais en Français, en comblant les petites lacunes de forme et les abréviations inévitables, quand on écrit un récit ou un discours parlé. J'ai conservé tous mes cahiers, qui font foi de la fidélité que je me suis efforcé d'apporter dans la reproduction de ce que j'entendais, sans rien retrancher, et surtout rien ajouter aux versions de mes conteurs. J'ai donné plusieurs versions du même type ou cycle, -- et j'aurais pu en donner davantage, -- parce que, malgré le fonds commun de la fable, les épisodes et les ressorts merveilleux sont si variés, que chaque version constitue, en quelque sorte, un conte diffèrent. Une des choses qui m'ont le plus frappé, dans nos contes bretons, c'est leur caractère foncièrement mythologique et leur ressemblance, soit pour la donnée générale, soit pour certains détails, reproduits avec une identité parfaite, avec les traditions analogues d'autres nations, fort éloignées de la Bretagne, mais principalement avec les contes Slaves publiés par M. Alexandre Chodzko, dans son recueil intitulé : Contes des pâtres et des paysans Slaves. Il n'est presque pas un conte de ce livre, pas un épisode ou un ressort merveilleux ou autre, que je n'aie rencontré, dans les récits de nos chaumières bretonnes. [...] J'ai été le premier à donner des versions exactes et parfaitement authentiques de nos contes populaires bas-bretons ; j'ai beaucoup cherché et beaucoup trouvé ; mais, il restera encore, après moi, bien des découvertes intéressantes à faire sur le sujet, et je ne puis qu'engager et encourager les jeunes folkloristes bretons à en tenter l'épreuve, en les assurant que leur peine ne sera pas perdue. C'est ce que j'ai essayé de faire pour la Basse-Bretagne.
