Ellos debian venir de parte del gobierno que proscribio a los Jesuitas; de la de los proscritos, en su defensa, apologia o quejas confidenciales por escrito con sus padres, parientes y amigos; o en fin de la de los indiferentes, imparciales o adictos que quisieran examinar aquellas providencias, si lisonjeras para unos, excesivas, injustas y crueles para la mayoria de la nacion. A todo se recurrio en la Pragmatica destructiva para hacer impene trahle el secreto. Los motivos de la expulsion se reservaron perpe tuamente en el real pecho. Se prohibio a los Jesuitas todo genero directo o indirecto de defensorios. Se vedo toda correspondencia con los desterrados. Se declaro reo de lesa rnagestad ( y en que tiem pos ) a cuantos escribiesen aun en sentido favorable sobre la mate ria, imponiendose eu el particular el silencio mas absoluto con des usadas amenazas, y la inaudita hasta entonces doctrina del mas ter rible despotismo y humillante arbitrariedad: habeis nacido para o bedecer y callar.
