In 1969, Juan Velasco Alvarado’s military government began an ambitious land reform program in Peru, transferring holdings from large estates to peasant cooperatives. Fifty years later this reform remains controversial: critics claim it unjustly expropriated land and ruined the Peruvian economy, while supporters emphasize its success in addressing rural inequality and exploitation. Más tarde vendrán los años de la "dictablanda" con Primo de Rivera y el advenimiento de la II República, con el exilio de Alfonso XIII. Pero a los tres años estalla la guerra civil y el General Francisco Franco se hace con el poder después de una larga guerra. Una trágica guerra civil y una larga dictadura lleva a España, finalmente, ante una nueva oportunidad de la historia en la que los españoles se muestran, al fin, capaces de edificar un nuevo Estado sobre las firmes bases del diálogo, el consenso y la moderación, pero en el momento actual las bases del régimen nacido de ese consenso vuelven a ponerse en cuestión, colocando al país ante una crisis cuya salida resulta difícil anticipar
