Au vu des données sociopolitiques, sociohistoriques et éditoriales dans lesquelles a évolué jusqu’ici la revendication amazighe, parmi les trois graphies tifinagh, arabe et latine, c’est la dernière qui semble la plus indiquée pour devenir l’écriture du kabyle numériquement le principal parler amazigh d’Algérie. L’analyse praxématique de mises en mots coproduites, autour de cette question, avec des enseignants de langue amazigh en Kabylie, révèle non seulement que ces derniers utilisent exclusivement la graphie latine mais aussi perçoivent cet usage moins comme un choix qu’une adhésion à une pratique ancrée dans la grammatisation en cours dans le domaine kabyle. Cette adhésion est fondée essentiellement sur le travail effectué en matière d’adaptation de cette graphie au besoin d’écrire l’amazigh et sur la production continue de littérature de fiction, de recueils de contes et de poésie au moyen de cette graphie et d’outils d’enseignement de la langue

Following a lengthy history of Tanna from European contact, the author discusses in detail original creation myths and how Tanna people revived them in response to changes brought by missionaries and foreign governments. The final chapters of the book deal with the violent opposition of part of the island population to the newly established National Unity government.
