Depuis sa redécouverte à l'extrême lin du XVIe siècle et après l'élan initié par les membres de l'expédition d'Egypte, Antinoé, prestigieux site de Moyenne-Egypte, a été explorée par différents fouilleurs, presque sans interruption de 1895 à nos jours. En dépit d'inévitables fouilles clandestines, ce lieu a été relativement préservé durant la période moderne. La collection d'oeuvres et de momies étudiées dans cet ouvrage provient des nécropoles de la cité antique d'Antinoé et représente un corpus de plus de cinq mille objets. Ce matériel archéologique, arrivé en France au début du XXe siècle, a été reparti par l'Etat français clans divers musées et universités du territoire national, et plus largement d'Europe, ou déposé ultérieurement par le musée du Louvre. Cet ensemble inédit et redécouvert grâce au récolement des dépôts du Louvre et des envois de l'Etat embrasse les époques romaine, byzantine et le début de l'époque islamique. Il illustre parfaitement la remarquable diversité des objets retrouvés sur le site : de riches vêtements aux décors variés et aux couleurs chatoyantes admirablement conservées, dont sont encore parées plusieurs des momies étudiées, parfois également recouvertes de dorure, des masques funéraires peints à l'effigie des défunts, des portraits des défunts et d'autres pièces, issues de leurs tombes, qui les accompagnaient dans l'au-delà. Cet ouvrage propose la vision la plus exhaustive possible de cette collection finalement assez peu connue d'un point de vue strictement archéologique et anthropologique. Il permet également de préciser l'histoire de l'arrivée des produits de fouilles en France et les modalités de leur distribution. Plusieurs investigations scientifiques ont été menées par le Louvre dans le cadre de cette étude, afin d'améliorer notre connaissance de la population et de la culture antique d'Antinoé. Les approches historiques et archivistiques, que complètent de nombreux documents de synthèse, ont vocation à fournir aux lecteurs, en particulier aux chercheurs, des repères et des outils issus de ces recherches. Initié par un dépouillement de fonds d'inventaires et d'archives, et suivi d'une étude scientifique des oeuvres, ce travail aura dure plus de quinze ans. Ces précieuses sources d'information permettent de revisiter l'Antiquité tardive, période de transition entre un monde païen et un monde devenu chrétien.

The impetus for this work emerged from Savall’s belief that there is a doubleloop interaction between social and economic factors in organizations, between behaviors and structures, and between the quality of life in organizations and their economic performance. When managers underestimate this dynamic interaction, the resulting tension ultimately manifests in lowered performance and increased costs, what he refers to as the “hidden costs” of organizational life. Only by delving into the depths of these organizational dynamics can we hope to fully understand – and create the basis for improving – organizational performance. This volume continues the collaboration between the RMC book series and the French management research think tank ISEOR (Socio-Economic Institute for Firms and Organizations). Those familiar with Henri Savall’s and his colleague Véronique Zardet’s earlier work on the socio-economic theory of organizations will recognize their assessments of organizational dysfunctions and hidden costs – but in a different context. In their current work, the emphasis is on the tensions created by the wider environment – the idea of tetranormalization – and how those tensions shape and influence organizational life. Drawing on a wide range of examples from the news media and popular press, Savall and Zardet paint a disturbing picture of the underlying dynamics and challenges posed by a literal avalanche of standards and norms – which are often ambiguous and conflicting – that literally encompasses all that we do. Their analytic framework is composed of four “poles” – two social dimensions and two economic dimensions – that capture social norms and quality, safety and environment standards (the social dimension), and trade-related norms and accounting and financial standards (the economic dimension). Throughout the volume, Savall and Zardet’s analysis captures the myriad ways in which these dimensions interact, shaping the “rules of the game” that dictate how organizations compete and collaborate.
