Es existiert ein breites Spektrum dieser Organisationen, zu denen beispielsweise Kultur- und Sportvereine, politische Parteien, Krankenhäuser, Hilfsorganisationen und Naturschutzorganisationen zählen. Da sie teilnehmen am wirtschaftlichen Leben, unterliegen sie (teilweise) auch dessen Gesetzmäßigkeiten und Erfordernissen. Nonprofit-Organisationen sehen sich, ebenso wie Profit-Organisationen, mit einer immer höheren Komplexität und Dynamisierung des Wirtschaftslebens konfrontiert. Diese Arbeit geht deshalb den Fragen nach, ob NPO Controlling benötigen und in welcher Weise es dort eingesetzt werden könnte. Dazu werden zunächst die Begriffe Controlling und Nonprofit-Organisation definiert. Ebenso werden die Aufgaben und Ziele der NPO erläutert. Um die Anforderungen an ein Controlling in diesen Organisationen hervorzuheben, wird anschließend auf die Problemstellung und die Ziele des Controllings in NPO eingegangen. Unter Punkt 4 schließlich werden ausgewählte Controlling-Instrumente vorgestellt und ihre Anwendung bzw. ihre Anwendbarkeit in Nonprofit-Organisationen gezeigt. In einem Fazit sollen abschließend die Erkenntnisse dieser Arbeit zusammengefasst und die aktuelle Situation des Controllings in NPO dargestellt werden.
