Cool Women Poets is a central New Jersey based, eleven-member poetry critique and performance group, who have meeting for 25 years and who do 40-45 minute poetry readings. The members are widely published individually and as a group (7 anthologies and 2 CDs of their work). Their performances are theme-based improvisations in which they begin with a theme. This is the seventh volume of these dynamic poets who have read from New Jersey to Portland, Oregon. Their energy--still wild and dynamic as they move into the 70's and 80's--is suggested in these lines from poet Eloise Bruce:Come on, let's give those neutrinos a chargeand have at it after we dance the body electricand just before we plunge into the unknown, moan with the muon, gyrate with gravity's strings and loops, finally permeate vast thicknesses without interactionand wallow in the leftovers of creation.Even if the libretto is bogus, it's the best sex we ever had.

Mothers, wives, concubines, entertainers, attendants, officials, maids, drudges. By offering the first comparative view of the women who lived, worked, and served in royal courts around the globe, this work opens a new perspective on the monarchies that have dominated much of human history. Written by leading historians, anthropologists, and archeologists, these lively essays take us from Mayan states to twentieth-century Benin in Nigeria, to the palace of Japanese Shoguns, the Chinese Imperial courts, eighteenth-century Versailles, Mughal India, and beyond. Together they investigate how women's roles differed, how their roles changed over time, and how their histories can illuminate the structures of power and societies in which they lived. This work also furthers our understanding of how royal courts, created to project the authority of male rulers, maintained themselves through the reproductive and productive powers of women.

Seven Czech Women written by Josette Baer and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-10-01 with History categories.

This engaging and insightful book is the first historical study in English portraying the lives and fates of Czech women. The seven life stories, ranging from the late 19th century to the present day, expose the often cruel political history of Bohemia (19th century), the Czech lands in Czechoslovakia (20th century), and the Czech Republic (20th–21st century) through the eyes of prominent women whose acts and deeds on behalf of their fellow citizens remain unforgotten in the Czech collective mind. The three chapters and four oral history interviews offer a captivating insight into how the situation of Czech women in society has changed during a most eventful period of history. This book has been preceded by a first volume on Slovak women (ISBN 9783838207087) whose lives have been of the same singular importance for Slovakia as their Czech counterparts were for their country. The two volumes are separate entities in their own right, but together provide the reader with a comprehensive picture of women's lives in the Czech lands and Slovakia, stressing the distinct political circumstances Czech and Slovak women have faced in recent history.

This volume of essays is the seventh in the series produced under the auspices of the Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project at the University of Houston. This ongoing and comprehensive program seeks to locate, identify, preserve, and disseminate the literary contributions of U.S. Latinos from the Spanish Colonial Period to contemporary times. The eleven essays included in this volume examine key issues relevant to the exploration of Hispanic literary production in the United States, including cultural identity, exile thought, class and women's issues. Originally presented at the ninth biennial conference of the Recovery Project, "Encuentros y Reencuentros: Making Common Ground," held in in collaboration with the Western Historical Association's annual meeting in 2006, the essays are divided into four sections: "History, Culture and Ideology;" "Women's Voices: Gender, Politics and Culture;" "Amparo Ruiz de Burton: Literature and History;" and "Language Representation and Translation." The work of scholars involved in making available the written record of Hispanic populations in the U.S. is critical for any comprehensive understanding of the U.S. experience, particularly in the West where the country's history is intricately linked with that of Hispanic peoples since the sixteenth century. In their introduction, editors Gerald Poyo and Tomas Ybarra-Frausto outline the goals and challenges of the Recovery Project to promote scholarly collaboration in the integration of research and recovered Hispanic texts in various disciplines, including history and Latina/o studies.

This research focuses on exploring and explaining women's perceptions of and social responses to environmental change. The research is gender specific, given the primary role of women as health care managers of their families. Thus, for women, environmental issues and health issues are closely related.
