Client side caching is a commonly used technique for reducing the response time of database queries. Semantic caching is a database caching approach in which results of old queries are cached and used for answering new queries. A new query will be split in a part that retrieves the portion of the result, which is available in a local cache (probe query) and a query that retrieves missing n-tuples for the database server (remainder query). This approach is especially suited for low-bandwidth environments or when database server is under heavy load. Semantic caching was successfully applied for optimizing the execution of queries on mobile clients or over lousy-coupled wide-area networks. Peer-to-Peer(P2P) networks have been applied successfully for improving the performance of cache systems. This thesis aims to use a P2P approach in order to enhance the semantic caching technique. Therefore, The Cooperative Semantic Caching (CoopSC) approach extends the general semantic caching mechanism by using a P2P (Peer-to-peer) approach in order to enable clients to share their local semantic caches in a cooperative manner. When executing a query, the content of both the local semantic cache and entries stored in caches of other clients can be used. A new query will be split into a probe, remote probes, and a remainder query. The probe retrieves the part of the answer which is available in the local cache. Remote probes retrieve those parts of the query which are available in caches of other clients. The remainder retrieves the missing n-tuples from the server. In order to execute the query rewriting, the cache entries of all clients are indexed in a distributed data structure built on top of a P2P overlay that is formed by all clients which are interrogating a particular database server. The general cooperative semantic approach also contains a mechanism for handling operations that modify the content of the database. During this thesis, the general approach was applied in the context of two real-life use-cases: cloud-computing environments, and NetFlow-based network monitoring solutions. This thesis shows that a cooperative semantic caching approach is technical feasible and such an approach approach increases the performance of databases systems. Moreover, in the context of such an approach, update handling can be executed with a reasonable performance when read-intensive workloads are executed. Finally the general CoopSC approach presents economic advantages when used within cloud-computing environments and improves the performance of NefFlow-based network monitoring solutions.

Seminar paper from the year 2017 in the subject Computer Science - Applied, grade: 3.5, course: Assignment, language: English, abstract: From the recent studies we come to know that the cooperative caching can improve the performance of system in wireless P2P networks such as hoc networks and mesh networks do. Somehow these all very high level studies leave many design and implementation issues which are still unanswered. While by study it shows that cooperative caching not only reduce the overhead copying issue between the user space and the kernel space, but it also allow data pipelines for end to end delay reduction. While the chip multiprocessors systems have made the on-chip caches as a decisive recourse shared among co scheduled threads. Still there are many challenges with respect to design for limited bandwidth, increasing on-chip wire interruption and extra capability features. So effectively Cooperative cache can support minimizing average access of memory latency and inaccessibility of critical inter-thread interference. So Caching is the common technique used for improve the. Cooperative Cache approach is intended for the treatment of large video streams with on requires access. We are rapidly heading towards a world in which the computing infrastructure will contain billions of devices, which will interact with other computing/communications devices that are carried or worn by users as they go through their daily routines. Such devices will provide data access to mobile users as they move within buildings, cities, or across the globe. This new infrastructure presents tremendous challenges for data management technology, including: huge scale; variable and intermittent connectivity; location and context-aware applications; bandwidth, power, and devi- size limitations; and multimedia data delivery across hybrid networks and systems. Traditional data management technologies such as query processing, transaction management, workflow, business process management, and metadata management must all be reevaluated in this emerging environment. Furthermore, nontraditional issues such as the semantics of mobile data, location-dependent querying, broadcast and multicast delivery, and caching/prefetching techniques must all be addressed. The ability to track people as they move about their daily tasks raises serious issues of security and privacy. This conference is the fourth in the Mobile Data Management series, focusing on the challenges and opportunities for the management of data in mobile, pervasive, and wearable computing. MDM 2000 and 2001 were in Hong Kong and MDM 2002 was in Singapore. Eighty-seven papers were submitted to the conference from 23 countries and were subject to a rigorous review procedure. Every paper had three or four independent reviews. Twenty-one full papers and 15 short papers from both academia and industry were selected for publication in this volume of proceedings.

Emerging high performance, high speed and scalable networks allow machines to access remote memory quicker than accessing disks. This paves way for coordinating the file caches of workstations in a distributed local area network, known as Cooperative Caching. This study introduces a novel cache architecture for cooperative caching called Reliable, Efficient and Distributed Cooperative Cache''. We present three algorithms - Server Logging, Client Logging and Peer Logging - that combine duplication with logging in order to improve the write performance of cooperative caching while ensuring the reliability of the data. We evaluate the performance of the logging algorithms using trace driven simulations. Several synthetic traces and two real world traces were used to measure the performance improvement obtained by the algorithms. The simulations indicate that the speedup obtained is as high as 10 compared to the baseline system. Based on the simulations, we conclude that the logging algorithms make complete use of the cooperative caching environment and provide better overall improvement by reducing the response time of write requests, improving individual client performance, minimizing the load on the server and ensuring reliability and availability of data.

The last decade has seen a tremendous growth in the usage of the World Wide Web. The Web has grown so fast that it seems to be becoming an unusable and slow behemoth. Web caching is one way to tame and make this behemoth a friendly and useful giant. The key idea in Web caching is to cache frequently accessed content so that it may be used profitably later. This book focuses entirely on Web caching techniques. Much of the material in this book is very relevant for those interested in understanding the wide gamut of Web caching research. It will be helpful for those interested in making use of the power of the Web in a more profitable way. Audience and purpose of this book This book presents key concepts in Web caching and is meant to be suited for a wide variety of readers including advanced undergraduate and graduate students‚ programmers‚ network administrators‚ researchers‚ teachers‚ techn- ogists and Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

Peer-to-peer (P2P) systems currently generate a major fraction of the total Internet traffic, accounting for as much as 60-70% of the traffic in some ISPs. We analyze the potential of cooperative proxy caching for P2P traffic as a means to ease the burden imposed by P2P traffic on ISPs. We perform trace-based simulations to demonstrate: (i) significant improvement in byte hit rate can be achieved using cooperative caching, (ii) simple object replacement policies are sufficient to achieve that gain, and (iii) the overhead imposed by cooperative caching is indeed negligible. In addition, using our analytical model, we confirm that substantial gains from cooperative caching are attainable under wide ranges of traffic and network characteristics. Finally, we propose a P2P proxy cache system for ISPs and enterprise networks to improve traffic locality. We assume that our proxy cache being deployed at the edge of an ISP, executed on the gateway server.
