Ao chegar aos lugares adjacentes, já percebeu a cor do sofrimento das árvores. Tudo era pálido e sem vida. Tudo era sombrio e sem natureza. A paisagem, que havia deixado verdejante, eram só árvores retorcidas e galhos secos. Já sabia o que encontrar, já que, durante muitas horas, vinha observando a terra rachada e muitas reses farejando o chão, só a cor marrom prevalecia neste espaço rachado do torrão. No chão estorricado do açude, só restava a lama. A única árvore que expressava a cor da vida era o xiquexique: sua coloração permanecia intacta. Ao retornar, encontrou o pai já bastante envelhecido, as reses já haviam expirado há anos, algumas cambaleavam, tentando sobreviver. A Fazenda, que, antes, fazia o sustento da família, estava totalmente tomada pelos galhos secos. Os confinantes fugiram com destino às megalópoles. Era intenso o número de noctívagos que passavam num real flagelo sem destino. Haviam passado alguns dias que Loló não saía para suas bravas aventuras. Após uma noite bastante tórrida, o sol amanheceu abrasador; ele tomou de posse de sua espingarda, colocou seu aió no ombro e saiu um tanto moroso, tendo em vista a pouca esperança, já que, a própria natureza já havia deixado o rastro da miséria. O aió continha farinha, nacos de rapadura, carne seca e salgada, mesmo assim se aventurou na mata. O sol já estava no centro da abóbada celeste, quando decidiu tentar aliviar a fome. Após se alimentar com a salgada carne, comeu um naco de rapadura para minorar o óbvio amargo da vida. Decorridas algumas horas, a sede começou a consumi-lo lentamente. Ciente de que não havia sequer um poço de água e estando bastante distante da Fazenda, ficou aterrorizado com a difícil situação e, a cada hora decorrida, percebia que a gorja estava apertando, como se estivesse com o pescoço enlaçado. Enveredou por algumas horas e nada de casa nas proximidades do ermo torrão, deixando-o cada vez mais atônito. Pensou no que fazer para reverter esta incômoda situação: adiante avistou um jumento e tentou se aproximar dele; ao chegar, fugiu-lhe o pensamento de montá-lo para andar à procura do precioso líquido, pois o asno era só o esqueleto em forma de jegue.

A última tentativa de Ilze e de sua filha Catarina, de eliminar Eliete da vida do professor Sidrião, culminou efetivamente com a tragédia do assassinato de sua esposa. O fato ocorreu em uma sexta-feira, 22 de março de 2013, exatamente ao meio-dia e cinco minutos, em que o professor Sidrião não estava em casa, já que se encontrava trabalhando na biblioteca do Centro de Humanidades da Universidade Estadual do Ceará (UECE), funcionário veterano, que era daquela instituição universitária pública. Eliete estava preparando o almoço em casa, quando uma motocicleta, ocupada por dois homens, um dos quais conduzindo uma caixa, na garupa, estacionou em frente à residência do professor Sidrião. —Encomenda para a senhora Eliete! — Gritou o piloto, pressionando a buzina do veículo. — A senhora precisa assinar o termo de recebimento! Eliete desceu a escada, deixando o almoço cozinhando sobre o fogão, abriu o portão que dava acesso à rua Domingos Lopes. Ao chegar ao portão e se dirigi à escada, para assinar o documento, antes que ela subisse o primeiro degrau, o garupeiro sacou de seu revólver e disparou três tiros à queima-roupa em Eliete, atingindo-a no pulso e no tórax direito. Ela correu, mesmo almejada, e conseguiu subir à escada e chegou até ao quarto onde viveram felizes por 11 anos, como quem queria dizer aqui fui feliz,,,

Multilingual diachronic case studies into lexicographical descriptions of flora, landscape features and colours concentrate on three supposedly simple words: daisies (Bellis perenis L.), hills and the colour red. The work is part of the ongoing LandLex initiative, originally developed as part of the COST ENeL - European Network for e-Lexicography - action. The dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo, who ruled the Dominican Republic from 1930 until his assassination in 1961, was one of the longest and bloodiest in Latin American history. The Dictator’s Seduction is a cultural history of the Trujillo regime as it was experienced in the capital city of Santo Domingo. Focusing on everyday forms of state domination, Lauren Derby describes how the regime infiltrated civil society by fashioning a “vernacular politics” based on popular idioms of masculinity and fantasies of race and class mobility. Derby argues that the most pernicious aspect of the dictatorship was how it appropriated quotidian practices such as gossip and gift exchange, leaving almost no place for Dominicans to hide or resist. Drawing on previously untapped documents in the Trujillo National Archives and interviews with Dominicans who recall life under the dictator, Derby emphasizes the role that public ritual played in Trujillo’s exercise of power. His regime included the people in affairs of state on a massive scale as never before. Derby pays particular attention to how events and projects were received by the public as she analyzes parades and rallies, the rebuilding of Santo Domingo following a major hurricane, and the staging of a year-long celebration marking the twenty-fifth year of Trujillo’s regime. She looks at representations of Trujillo, exploring how claims that he embodied the popular barrio antihero the tíguere (tiger) stoked a fantasy of upward mobility and how a rumor that he had a personal guardian angel suggested he was uniquely protected from his enemies. The Dictator’s Seduction sheds new light on the cultural contrivances of autocratic power.

The aim of this book is to bring together multidisciplinary research in the field of green infrastructure design, construction and ecology. The Colour and Colour Naming conference, held in 2015 at the University of Lisbon, offered a chance to explore colour naming processes from a cross-linguistic approach. The conference was an initiative of the working group Lexicography And Lexicology from a Pan-European Perspective, itself part of the COST action European Network of Lexicography. The working group investigates the various ways by which vocabularies of European languages can be represented in dictionaries and how existing information from single language dictionaries can be displayed and interlinked to better communicate their common European heritage. The proceedings gather together a selection of studies originally presented at the conference. The first section of the volume outlines a Pan-European perspective of colour names; the second section is devoted to the categorisation and lexicographic description of colour terms.
