Il tempo, essendo un concetto ideato dall’uomo, ha una validità limitata e, pertanto, una migliore comprensione della natura comporterà, in futuro, la rinuncia all’idea di tempo, così com’è concepita attualmente, che sarà sostituita da un’idea più profonda.

L’universo è l’insieme di tutte le cose che esistono: stelle, pianeti, galassie, ammassi di galassie. Non ha quindi senso chiedersi che cosa c’è al fuori di esso: non esiste nient’altro, nemmeno lo spazio. Nell’universo ci sono miliardi di galassie, raggruppate in milioni di ammassi; le dimensioni di una galassia sono così piccole rispetto alla vastità del cosmo, che si possono considerare quasi puntiformi. Se la nostra Galassia fosse grande quanto una nocciola, la galassia di Andromeda sembrerebbe un’altra nocciola posta a 20 centimetri di distanza e il Gruppo Locale avrebbe le dimensioni di una grossa anguria. A 5 metri e mezzo da questa anguria si troverebbe l’ammasso della Vergine, mentre più lontano, a 30 metri circa, l’ammasso di Coma. Il quasar più lontano che conosciamo.

This book will offer a full reconstruction of the history of Theoretical Marxism in Italy between 1895 and 1935, based on a rigorous philological method. The starting term (1895) is marked by the publication of Antonio Labriola's first essay on historical materialism (In memory of Communist Manifesto); the final term coincides with the conclusion of the "Prison Notebooks" written by Antonio Gramsci. This book analyses the original character of the Marxist philosophy in Italy, which emerged by distinguishing itself from the "orthodoxy" of the Second and Third International. By delineating a significant chapter in the history of Marxism, the book will also propose a specific contribution to the history of Italian Philosophy, which is here studied in relation to the developments of European philosophy, beyond the traditional subdivisions of Positivism, Idealism and Marxism.
