Excerpt from The Country Faith Well, there are so many things in the dear, sun colored earth that want to be spoken to! Yet, we must hurry along, or we shall never get to the end of our walk. So, as simple illustrations of the country faith, I want you to share with me some Of the things it was my privilege to see. The more I think of it, said Ruskin, I find this conclusion more impressed upon me - that the greatest thing a human soul ever does in this world is to see something, and tell what it saw in a plain way. If we honestly see and speak to the earth, it will luminously and inspiringly teach us. The first lesson from the teaching earth was a set of silent morning glory chimes. There they hung, the three Of them, in their rich blue tower Of color. Yet, on looking more closely, I found that two of the three bell-shaped flowers were already fading. Unequal to the growing heat of the sun, they were all doomed to a transient existence. For it is just the nature Of this flower to curl Up and wither away in the face of the sun. Looking at these flowers, faded and fading, somehow I could not keep back that wail Of the Hebrew prophet, O Israel, he cried, thy goodness is like the morning dew, that passeth early away. Now, it is perfectly natural for the flower to fade and for the dewdrop to vanish; but how unnatural that our goodness, too, should be so fickle and ephemeral! We say it is easy and natural to be bad, so hard and difficult to be good. But is the saying altogether true? A thousand times, no! It is false to the core. For God And Country written by James Yee and has been published by PublicAffairs this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-10-11 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

In 2001, Captain James "Yusuf" Yee was commissioned as one of the first Muslim chaplains in the United States Army. After the tragic attacks of September 11, 2001, he became a frequent government spokesman, helping to educate soldiers about Islam and build understanding throughout the military. Subsequently, Chaplain Yee was selected to serve as the Muslim Chaplain at Guantanamo Bay, where nearly 700 detainees captured in the war on terror were being held as "unlawful combatants." In September 2003, after serving at Guantanamo for ten months in a role that gave him unrestricted access to the detainees--and after receiving numerous awards for his service there--Chaplain Yee was secretly arrested on his way to meet his wife and daughter for a routine two-week leave. He was locked away in a navy prison, subject to much of the same treatment that had been imposed on the Guantanamo detainees. Wrongfully accused of spying, and aiding the Taliban and Al Qaeda, Yee spent 76 excruciating days in solitary confinement and was threatened with the death penalty. After the U.S. government determined it had made a grave mistake in its original allegations, it vindictively charged him with adultery and computer pornography. In the end all criminal charges were dropped and Chaplain Yee's record wiped clean. But his reputation was tarnished, and what has been a promising military career was left in ruins. Depicting a journey of faith and service, Chaplain Yee's For God and Country is the story of a pioneering officer in the U.S. Army, who became a victim of the post-September 11 paranoia that gripped a starkly fearful nation. And it poses a fundamental question: If our country cannot be loyal to even the most patriotic Americans, can it remain loyal to itself?

God S Country written by Bradley Roth and has been published by Herald Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-25 with Religion categories.

With the poetic force of Kathleen Norris and the pastoral warmth of Eugene Peterson, Kansas pastor Roth sets forth a vision for vibrant rural churches, for ministry in congregations that bear a profound sense of both loss and possibility, and for harvesting fruits of transformation and renewal. Rooted in stories from Scripture, his own ministry, and interviews with rural church leaders, Roth offers a sturdy theological and practical alternative to church-growth strategies that rely on success stories and flashy metrics. Reclaiming God’s vision for the rural church, Roth writes, means learning how to praise, abide, watch, pray, grow, work the edges, die, befriend, and dream. In God’s Country, rediscover the stunning abundance of God’s presence in rural communities. Name the ways that the rural church testifies to God’s glory and goodness. Learn to live and love and minister right where you are, no matter how small or unassuming it may seem. Winner of the Award of Merit, Christianity Today 2018 Book Awards, The Church / Pastoral Leadership category. Free downloadable study guide available here.

Jesus Was A Country Boy written by Clay Walker and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-02 with Religion categories.

Popular country music superstar Clay Walker talks about Jesus and the simple, grassroots faith that He inspired. Clay Walker's hit single “Jesus Was a Country Boy” resonated with people fed up with slick preachers driving luxury cars and church sanctuaries as big as football fields. That’s not what Jesus was all about. Like the country boy next door, Jesus modeled a grassroots faith. He was born in a barn and fished for his dinner. He hung out with lowlifes and sinners. He came not for the rich and powerful, but for the good old boys and country gals. Drawing from his own humble beginnings, Clay explores the ways Jesus spoke to good old-fashioned country folk: Jesus knew where he came from and he knew where he was going. He knew how to treat people, but he wasn’t afraid of a fight. He knew how to have a good time, and he loved to surprise people. And, like any good country boy, he knew about heartbreak. Ultimately, Jesus came to love and show that knowing His father is as free and easy as a summer breeze on a front-porch swing. If you want to find God, then it’s time to lose religion and meet a country boy from Bethlehem.
