The most important aspects of our "salvation," as explained in the Word of God, are very easy to understand. But why does everyone always think the Bible is so hard to understand? When we don't understand something in the Bible, we like to come up with various theological "truths." But when we do that we also rob God's Word of its power. These theological systems also tend to become extremely complicated in themselves. Then we need to come up with more of these so-called "truths" to compensate for the other false "truths." You don't need "official" theological training to understand the Bible. There is actually no biblical basis for the necessity of formal theological study. Now that doesn't mean that you shouldn't expand your knowledge of the Word of God. Such knowledge can of course be very valuable. But literally anyone can obtain the most essential knowledge about salvation simply by reading the bible for themselves. The words of Jesus were so simple that even children could understand it. And we should be willing to accept Jesus' words with childlike faith.

Covenant Theology systematizes the biblical information concerning the manner in which God saves sinners through Jesus Christ. It places the Bible into a covenantal framework that makes biblical sense. The Bible speaks of salvation in terms of “covenant.” God is a covenant God who saves His people through covenants. The three main theological covenants of the Bible are the Covenant of Redemption, the Covenant of Works and the Covenant of Grace. These are theological terms that are packed with biblical information dealing with the way God saves sinners. When someone asks, “How does God save people?” the answer lies within the framework of Covenant Theology. So, it is the intention of this work to unpack those terms and make the information in them accessible to the reader in a clear, accurate and biblically helpful manner that serves as an introduction to these theologically rich ideas. After this simple overview, his newly published work “Covenant Theology Made Easy” is the next book to read.

This study presents the religious factor in the development of a separatistic group identity among the forebears of the Afrikaners during the Dutch colonial period of South African history. The dominant strain of Dutch Reformed covenantal thought conveyed to South Africa treated the entire community as redeemed and called to be separate. This covenantal theory and its corresponding baptism helped to shape the emerging group identity.

The reason this book exists is to give the Christian church a basic overview of Covenant Theology that 1) follows the Bible, 2) follows The 1647 Westminster Confession, and, 3) is easy to work through. There has not been a book like this that follows the Bible, Westminsterian Theology, or the magnum opus of Herman Witsius (which is a watershed work on Covenant Theology called “The Economy of the Covenants Between God and Man”). This work follows the outline of Witsius and places these theologically important concepts into an easy to understand format. If nothing else has been read on Covenant Theology, this work would be a helpful volume to teach the serious bible student the fundamentals of the Christian faith in the same way that the Early Church, Augustinian Christians, Reformers and Puritans taught Covenant Theology. (The author has also written, “A Simple Overview of Covenant Theology” which could be a helpful resource and precursor to this volume.) The Eternal Covenant written by Ralph Allan Smith and has been published by Canon Press & Book Service this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Religion categories.

In this book Ralph Smith delves deeper into the discussion at the intersection of covenant and trinitarian theology that he began with 'Paradox and Truth.' Though many Reformed theologians have recognized an agreement between the Father and the Son for the salvation of the human race, few have explored the vast theological possibilities of an eternal covenant that involves all three persons of the Trinity. Instead, covenantal soteriology has focused on the so-called covenant of works between God and Adam, which turns out to be problematic both biblically and theologically. Smith places the eternal covenant in the position it deserves - the keystone of biblical and systematic theology - with profound consequences for the Christian worldview.

Covenant: A Vital Element of Reformed Theology provides a multi-disciplinary reflection on the theme of the covenant, from historical, biblical-theological and systematic-theological perspectives. The interaction between exegesis and dogmatics in the volume reveals the potential and relevance of this biblical motif. It proves to be vital in building bridges between God’s revelation in the past and the actual question of how to live with him today.

This book is the printed form of a Doctoral Dissertation, the focus of the Paper is the application of Ancient Near East covenant principles to exegesis of New Testament Scriptures. This is an important work, for such application demonstrates many fallacies within currently held to Reformed Theology. Application of covenant principles to interpretation of New Testament Scripture is a more complete hermeneutic than what the Reformers had, and must be incorporated into the modern codified set of Biblical Hermeneutics. Because the New Testament is not a testament but a covenant modeled after ANE covenants, understanding what a covenant is and how a covenant operates is paramount to a more complete and accurate set of interpretative rules for comprehending ancient documents. This work is no less important to preachers, teachers, scholars and theologians than is Mendenhall and Trumbull's seminal work on covenants, Kline's work on covenant law, or Sander's work on the law.
