Esta obra recoge una colección de artículos que plantean una revisión crítica de la economía convencional, la que es enseñada en las universidades y la utilizada en el mundo académico, en los negocios e incluso en la economía pública. Por cada escuela de pensamiento convencional se ha recogido una selección de textos de reconocidos economistas, pertenecientes a distintos ámbitos del pensamiento económico, que proporcionan una amplia visión crítica de la economía convencional, de sus limitaciones, exageraciones y carencias. Según las circunstancias sociales de cada momento, el pensamiento económico ha ido desarrollando unas u otras líneas de expresión. En la evolución de estas ideas han ido sobreviviendo las más afines con los intereses dominantes de cada época, mientras se iban marginando las menos acordes con aquéllos, hasta dar lugar a la conformación de un cuerpo de ideas y doctrinas que actualmente se conoce como la economía convencional, la economía ortodoxa o, simplemente, como economía, usurpando e ignorando con esta denominación cualquier otra forma de pensamiento económico. Todavía más, en las últimas tres décadas, sólo una de estas escuelas, la neoclásica, apoyada por los grandes intereses económicos del mundo, y por los no menos corporativos, como los académicos, se ha convertido aparentemente en el único paradigma riguroso, científico y políticamente válido; todo un espléndido ejercicio de pensamiento único. El objetivo de este libro es múltiple: en primer lugar, pretendemos poner de relieve el relativismo del pensamiento económico y cómo éste depende en cada época de los intereses económicos dominantes; en segundo lugar, estimular el conocimiento profundo de sus limitaciones; y en tercer lugar, y el más importante, estimular el estudio y la búsqueda de otras interpretaciones en el mundo de la economía, que sirvan de ayuda para la comprensión y transformación de esta sociedad. Asimismo, deseamos y esperamos que pueda servir de instrumento para muchos economistas y estudiantes de economía que, buscando una aproximación crítica a la economía convencional, no encuentran materiales adecuados para estudiarla.
