Zarathustra was Nietzsche's masterpiece, the first comprehensive statement of his mature philosophy, and the introduction of his influential and well-known (and misunderstood) ideas including the "overman" or "superman" and the "will to power." It is also the source of Nietzsche's famous (and much misconstrued) statement that "God is dead." Though this is essentially a work of philosophy, it is also a masterpiece of literature, a cross between prose and poetry. A considerable part and parcel of Nietzsche's genius is his ability to make his language dance, and this is what becomes extraordinarily difficult to translate. It has been almost 40 years since Hollingdale's version for Penguin and almost 50 since Kaufmann's. However, anyone who appreciates the German original knows that these translations are merely adequate. While earlier translators have smoothed out the rough edges, cut corners and sometimes omitted troublesome passages outright, this one honors and respects the original as no other. Kaufmann and others are guilty of the deplorable tendency to "improve" on the original. Much is lost by this means, to say nothing of the interior rhythms, the grace notes, the not always graceful but omnipresent and striking puns and wordplays. And in not a few instances the current translation improves on Kaufmann's use of English or otherwise clarifies what Nietzsche is really saying

El escribiente no cree en su interlocutor y se lo advierte, pero su falta de fe lo empuja a un panteísmo del significante: cosa que nombra, cosa a la que le escribe (Amado Escarabajo, Amado Cuchillo, Amado Punto, Amado Cuervo, Amada Nube de Bacterias). Una enciclopedia maravillosa va apareciendo a los ojos del tercero, el lector. Y también una serie de historias y personajes, porque la parábola, más vieja que la literatura, termina por encontrar su lugar. Puede que Dios no exista, pero eso no es motivo para dejar de escribirle. En La ciudad de Dios San Agustín descubre que el alma, o el inconsciente, es indiferente al error: "¿Y si te engañas? Si me engaño, existo; pues quien no existe no puede tampoco engañarse. No me engaño en las cosas que amo; aunque ellas fueran falsas, sería verdad que amo las cosas falsas. ¿Por qué iba a ser reprendido e impedido de amar las cosas falsas?". Guadalupe Salomón

Un primero, Los lagartos, que se desarrolla a través de narraciones que son un vivo reflejo de la sociedad española de posguerra, tanto rural como urbana, supervivientes de la escabechina a la que fue sometida la obra por la censura franquista y a las que el autor ha incorporado aquellas que fueron excluidas y él guardaba en viejas carpetas.\r\nUn segundo y tercer cuerpo de difícil catalogación por tratarse de relatos —algunos de claro trasfondo autobiográfico— y artículos de variados escenarios, épocas y estructuras. No obstante, reflejan una nítida intención, en algunos casos, de poner rostro y alma a personajes sin perfil que sirvieron de relleno en una sociedad sometida, y en otros casos, analizar situaciones y hechos que quedaron desnudos ante los ojos críticos y difícilmente adaptables de este autor.
