A Comprehensive Guide to Discipleship in the New Testament and Today's World Although the concept of discipleship is an integral part of New Testament teaching, it has largely faded from discussion in both the academy and the local church. To revive and reclaim this teaching for believers in the twenty-first century, editors John Goodrich and Mark Strauss have assembled an expert team of scholars to uncover what every New Testament book teaches about discipleship, providing a comprehensive, biblical picture. In addition, other contributors explore discipleship in the context of the local church, spiritual formation, and the life of the mind. Together, these essays point the way forward for becoming more like Jesus Christ, and helping others do the same, in our personal and corporate lives. "An impressive roster of scholars who have addressed a vital but often neglected topic in both the church and in the academy. . . . Rich with insight, Following Jesus Christ represents a major advance in this essential area of study." --Craig A. Evans, Houston Baptist University "We are treated here to a survey of what discipleship means in the New Testament from experts in the field, and we also see some of the wider dimensions of discipleship in this important work. All those wanting to understand discipleship will find this to be a valuable resource." --Thomas R. Schreiner, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

Jesus has actual real disciples today. They follow Him in their day to day lives. It is not just on twitter, facebook or other social media, but in choices one has to make daily, yes and in the relationships with those around you - ones you agree with and ones you do not agree with. Following Jesus does not entail a list of rules, do's and don'ts, no. It is a life lived in victory over sin, in joy to be on the earth, sharing the love Jesus has showered us with. It is great. I invite you to follow him fully, unhindered by traditions which nullify the word of God as Mark 7:13 says. Should you slip up at some point, do not lose heart, he picks you and turns you around and teaches you to live victoriously. Happy following.

Put Jesus, the risen Jesus, in the middle of your life, your thinking, your living, your work, your pains, your griefs, your anxieties, your hopes, and your fears -- put this Jesus in the middle, and work them all around him. Learn to worship him; learn to love him; and learn to live with a new life in his new world.' So ends this exhilarating sequence of meditations on the biblical Jesus, and what it means to follow him today. In Part One, 'Looking to Jesus', NT Wright outlines the essential message of six major New Testament books, looking in particular at their portrayal of Jesus -- 'the pioneer and perfecter of our faith'- and what he accomplished in his sacrificial death. In Part Two, 'A Living Sacrifice', he takes six key New Testament themes -- resurrection, re-birth, temptation, hell, heaven, and new life -- and explores their significance for the lives of present-day disciples.

Using as a starting point Jesus own claim that the Scriptures spoke about Him, this book traces how He fulfilled the Old Testament promise of a coming Messiah. The Old Testament was like a solid and reliable signpost, while the gospels were the good news of his coming, to be followed by the inspired commentary of the New Testament letters about Messiah. It all ends with a great Messianic celebration.

Judas Iscariot Damned Or Redeemed written by Carol A. Hebron and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-09-22 with Religion categories.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Judas was characterised in film as the epitome of evil: the villainous Jew. Film-makers cast Judas in this way because this was the Judas that audiences had come to recognize and even expect. But in the following three decades, film-makers - as a result of critical biblical study - were more circumspect about accepting the alleged historicity of the Gospel accounts. Carol A. Hebron examines the figure of Judas across film history to show how the portrayal becomes more nuanced and more significant, even to the point where Judas becomes the protagonist with a role in the film equal in importance to that of Jesus'. Hebron examines how, in these films, we begin to see a rehabilitation of the Judas character and a restoration of Judaism. Hebron reveals two distinct theologies: 'rejection' and 'acceptance'. The Nazi Holocaust and the exposure of the horrors of genocide at the end of World War II influenced how Judaism, Jews, and Judas, were to be portrayed in film. Rehabilitating the Judas character and the Jews was necessary, and film was deemed an appropriate medium in which to begin that process.

Engaging Jesus With Our Senses written by Jeannine Marie Hanger and has been published by Baker Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-08-27 with Religion categories.

Jesus took on flesh--he was embodied. And the Gospels use multisensory language to reveal that his teaching, ministry, and interactions with people engaged the senses. Consider the raging storm on the Sea of Galilee, the perfume filling the house as Mary anointed Jesus's feet, the significance of touch as Jesus healed people. Jesus even described himself in sensory terms--as the bread of life, the light of the world, the vine to whom his disciples are connected. Our physical senses are crucial to gaining knowledge of the world around us. Yet when it comes to Bible reading, we often reduce it to a mere cognitive experience, ignoring the Psalmist's invitation to "taste and see that the Lord is good." This book offers a fresh way to read the Gospels with an emphasis on embodiment, focused on a life abiding in Christ. The goal is a greater, more tangible knowledge of God. Jeannine Hanger points to the importance of engaging our physical senses in Bible reading, shows an approach to doing so with an emphasis on sparking the imagination, and looks at how utilizing our primary senses plays out in reading the Gospels. Each chapter includes sensory practices and questions for personal reflection. The book includes a foreword by Grant Macaskill.
