This book is suitable for professionals working with adults who are vulnerable for a number of different reasons: those who have addictions such as eating disorders, drug and alcohol abuse or a history of violent relationships; adults with mental ill health; individuals and families with behavioural difficulties; people in forensic settings; those with multiple disabilities; learning impaired adults; people with strokes and other physical impairment often as a result of accidental injury. Material is chosen sensitively to enable confidence and creativity building, and the development of communication skills. Photocopiable worksheets offer the professional activities that will encourage trust and collaboration; foster independence and choice, maximise people's learning potential and stimulate everyone's imagination and creativity. Ideas are given for improvisation and movement as well as masks and myths. Cross-cultural perspectives are discussed together with boundaries for clinical groups. Dean goes to the theatre with his family. He enjoys it so much, his friend James encourages him to go to a drama group. He's very nervous and finds it hard to join in at first. But once he gets to know people he has a really good time, doing both backstage roles and acting. Drama groups are a good way to meet new friends and to take part in a theatre production. You can be an actor, or take on a backstage role – like painting the scenery, lighting, make-up, or stage management. Every role in a theatre production is important – if somebody doesn't turn up, the show can't go on. This book will encourage those who'd like to give acting, or backstage roles, a try, by giving examples of activities, as well as illustrating the process of putting on a play.

The purpose of this study is to explore whether creative drama and storytelling has an impact on enhancing the thinking skills among the Learning Disability (LD) children. The study also investigates how the creative drama and storytelling could help the LD children to learn. The study is limited to Primary School of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This school is known for following an inclusive outlook in their teaching and learning process. As such, data was collected from five LD children enrolled at the school. A qualitative case study design was employed over an eight-week period to explore how creative drama and storytelling will create an environment where LD children could use their thinking skills, participate in group work which enhances the LD children capability to learn. The data was collected through observation, document analysis and interviews. The analysis of the collected data revealed that during the weekly creative drama and storytelling session, the LD children had improved positively in learning and in using their thinking skills. This study sheds light on the ways that teachers can use creative drama and storytelling to create an environment that helps every LD child to learn, thereby enhancing the thinking skills of LD children. Therefore, the study recommends introducing thinking skills in the Learning Disability educational programme through using creative teaching method and adding extra classes for the students which are mainly concerned with teaching thinking skills.
