Trebuie remarcat din capul locului că Roxana Eichel alege calea regală a confruntării spațio-temporale, impunându-și o limitare drastică a evadărilor în zona biograficului, cel care aduce, de regulă, timpul și spațiul laolaltă. Investigația Roxanei Eichel vrea să se mențină deasupra ispitelor conjuncturalului, pe care ni le livrează de regulă mărturisirile proprii sau mărturiile altora, preferând decriptarea semnelor destinului din înseși textele teoretice și critice pe care le scriu protagoniștii scenariului pe care autoarea îl explorează. Șarjând un pic, din motive euristice, aș zice că, pentru Roxana Eichel, Matei Călinescu, Virgil Nemoianu și Toma Pavel nu pleacă din România, ci din teoria literară românească, și nu ajung în Statele Unite, ci în comparatistica transatlantică. Liviu Papadima Studiul Roxanei Eichel arată cât de pasionantă poate fi arheologia ideilor dacă e practicată cu inteligență și cu preocupare pentru mobilitatea contextelor în care oamenii și lecturile circulă, mai ales în (post)modernitate. Critica regăsirii reia un subiect discutat doar superficial până acum, deși deseori la îndemână în conversația intelectuală curentă: „teoria românească în exil“ (mai precis, cărțile lui Matei Călinescu, Virgil Nemoianu, Toma Pavel). Roxana Eichel întâmpină cu ironie generalizările și narațiunile fondatoare pe această temă și oferă, în schimb, argumente pentru o regândire a determinărilor complexe între biografie și operă, individ și școală de gândire, consecvență și ispita noului. O admirabilă demonstrație despre cum se face teoria literară. Oana Fotache Cartea scrisă de Roxana Eichel ne oferă o imagine convingătoare a culturii universitare românești în anii ’60, precum și a rațiunilor pentru care, la strângerea ideologică din anii ’70, mulți tineri intelectuali și-au părăsit țara. Excelent informată, atentă și la imaginea de ansamblu, și la detalii, scrisă pe un ton limpede și prietenos, Critica regăsirii înțelege și face înțeles felul în care Matei Călinescu, Virgil Nemoianu și eu însumi am încercat, și poate din când în când am reușit, să coordonăm experiența culturală din România cu valurile de curente critice din Vest. The Other Europe is a general history of Eastern Europe, from the earliest times to the end of World War II. Walters provides an informed and interpretively refreshing focus on this key region.
