In this ambitious study, Anna K. Boucher and Justin Gest present a unique analysis of immigration governance across thirty countries. Relying on a database of immigration demographics in the world's most important destinations, they present a novel taxonomy and an analysis of what drives different approaches to immigration policy over space and time. In an era defined by inequality, populism, and fears of international terrorism, they find that governments are converging toward a 'Market Model' that seeks immigrants for short-term labor with fewer outlets to citizenship - an approach that resembles the increasingly contingent nature of labor markets worldwide.

The Evangelical Church At The Crossroads Of Secular Culture And Change written by Dr. Arnold O. Thompson and has been published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-03-28 with Religion categories.
This book lays out in clear biblical and specific ways how the kingdom of God can effectively intersect with the kingdom of this world. The author first laid out the dark forces in the churches' engagement in the so-called cultural wars, like storm force winds blowing at the doors of the church to influence its message, change its historical methods, corrupt its mission. It identifies the crises in all three areas. The author contends that by and large the so-called cultural wars waged by sections of the evangelical church have been lost in the real mission of the Christian church. The book does not linger long here, but rigorously lays out the biblical mandate and methods for the church to regain its purpose and mission of Christ in the world. This is the goal of this book. From the start, the author understood this was an extensive undertaking to stand like John on the island of Patmos looking at visions of the modern church and to write a manifesto as if to say for God, "I see you." I see what a large and influential segment of the church is doing, which, I contend, is hurting the cause of Christ and His Gospel today. But also, to say that I see what is needed to again influence the culture to turn to Christ. To give, as did John, a clear voice to defy the confusions and uncertainties and communicate effectively the Gospel of Christ to a lost world. This goal would seem impossible, to see a revival of the Gospel in secular culture, like the great revivals of the past. Except the ancient prophets said, as did Peter in the revival of Pentecost, "In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams" (Acts 2:17). This book is a dream path to the reality of a revival of the Gospel in our times.

Urban Climate Change Crossroads written by Maria Paola Sutto and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-15 with Science categories.
Urban climate change is a crossroads in two very different senses. One is historical. With the world now more than half urban, and given the ecological consequences of the world's high-consumption urban centers, we are at an ecological crossroad. We either head off the worst of ecological collapse through concerted and forward-looking action, or we face a 'Mad Max future' of dystopia, violence, and upheaval. The second crossroad is intellectual. Our individual disciplines are unable to grasp the magnitude of the economic-ecological challenges ahead. For that we need to work holistically, calling on the knowledge of climatologists, engineers, sociologists, economists, public health specialist, designers, architects, community organizers, and more. The intellectual crossroad is nothing less than a new intellectual field of Sustainable Development. Based on a major international forum held in Rome in 2008, this volume brings together leading climate change experts to engage with the climate change discourse as it shifts from mitigation to adaptation, with particular attention to the urban environment. In doing so, it provides important insights into how to deal with the first crossroad, by achieving the second. It represents a new generation of thinking involving not only science, but the broad array of fields that must be called upon to effectively address the global climate crisis: from ecological science to political science; from economics to philosophy to architecture; and from public health to public art. It is a pioneering effort to broaden the discursive field, and is likely to remain a landmark study on the subject for a generation.
