When people address the topic of immigration of Latin Americans to the United States, many times they only consider the legal process and the factors in the community and the nation which are affected by immigration. But also when one thinks about the different aspects of immigration, one has to consider the Latino perspective and the cultural differences. When Latin Americans move to the United States, they run into many difficulties in the new country. They are crossing a literal frontier, but also a cultural frontier. -- The focuses of this project are the two parts of the cultural frontier which affect Latin Americans more than others. The problem of the language frontier and that of discrimination against Latin Americans in the United States are the two biggest factors which Latin Americans have to cross when they emigrate. With language, there are three major difficulties: the difficulty of learning a new language, the difficulty of communication, and the danger of not knowing the [new] common language. With the discrimination problem, one has to consider the stereotypes of Latin Americans, the problems the stereotypes cause, the government's opinion, and also the irony of discrimination by American citizens against Latin Americans. -- This project puts forward several possible solutions to repair these problems in the United States. They include a national language, more adult language classes in Spanish and English, a bilingual system for teaching in the schools, and a more tolerant mentality in American society.
