Para transmitir la sensación de inquietud y terror la acción transcurría en un solo lugar, en donde todos los detalles estaban subordinados al conjunto y cualquier detalle de poco interés sobraba. La sensación de horror la transmitió de manera directa y en una determinada longitud, la brevedad. En todos sus relatos la tortura, la desesperación, la depresión, los crímenes, las venganzas, la agonía, la locura, se muestran libres y desnudos como el terror y la muerte. Poe anticipó la narrativa de ciencia ficción.

Carlos Fuentes (1928–2012) was the most prominent novelist in contemporary Mexico and, until his recent death, one of the leading voices in Latin America’s Boom generation.
