La Habana, capital de Cuba, tiene una historia que casi todos conocemos, de contarla se encargaron escritores, investigadores, plásticos, poetas, músicos, artistas en general y sobre todo su desaparecido historiador Eusebio Leal que dedicó su vida a este propósito logrando que en 1982, su centro histórico, La Habana Vieja, fuera declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad, años después el 7 de diciembre 2014, en Dubái es seleccionada La Habana, como una de las siete ciudades maravilla del mundo por representar la diversidad global de la sociedad urbana. Sin embargo, más allá de su arquitectura y sábanas blancas colgadas en los balcones, a decir de Gerardo Alfonso, hay una vida que distingue a sus pobladores, sean habaneros o no y es esa forma de manifestarse en cada municipio, en cada barrio. No hay como los momentos de crisis para poner a prueba la inventiva de sus ciudadanos y fue precisamente en la década del noventa cuando después de la caída del campo socialista, y del colapso de la Unión Soviética en 1991 y del Came, y dada la carencia del combustible, que se puso de moda las bicicletas, para palear la difícil situación con el transporte creada en el país. El autor de este libro Ravelo Rodiles, hace un recorrido por La Habana en la época que se conoció como Periodo Especial, desde la óptica de un cubano de a pie, de pronto convertido en ciclista, pero siempre con la mirada de un fotógrafo es capaz de retratar hasta el más mínimo detalle que caracterizó la vida de la ciudad de aquel entonces, regodearse en lugares como La Copa en Miramar donde muchos encontraron como única salida a la crisis “lanzarse a mar en precarias embarcaciones”. Mientras para otros, la cola por el diario batallar de la vida se convierte en rutina que hay que vencer con una de las armas más poderosas que ha tenido el cubano: el humor. Porque como se titula un cuento: “Dios aprieta, pero no ahoga”.
