Cultura y Espectáculos en la prensa de México. Estudio de temas y géneros en los periódicos: Reforma, El Universal y La Jornada tiene por objeto el estudio de los diferentes tipos de géneros periodísticos con los que trabajan los medios de comunicación mexicanos. La publicación es el resultado del proyecto de investigación llevado a cabo en la Universidad de Colima (Colima, México) durante el verano de 2008. El área cultural es una de las que desarrolla temas más variados (cine, teatro, literatura, danza, ópera, etc.), y por lo tanto la variedad de géneros puede ser más evidente. Además es probablemente el espacio donde mejor quedan patentes de manera secundaria las costumbres, tradiciones y tendencias de una sociedad y de cómo jerarquiza sus preferencias desde el punto de vista cultural. La doctora Montserrat Jurado Martín es profesora de la asignatura Comunicación e Información Escrita en la Universidad Miguel Hernández de Elche (España) y en el Centro de Estudios Ciudad de la Luz de Alicante (España).

How were femininity and motherhood understood in Mexican cinema from the 1940s to the early 1990s? Film analysis, interviews with filmmakers, academic articles and film reviews from newspapers are used to answer the question and trace the changes in such depictions. Images of mothers in films by so-called third-wave filmmakers (Busi Cortes, Maria Novaro, Dana Rotberg and Marisa Sistach) are contrasted with those in Mexican classical films (1935-1950) and films from the 1970s and 1980s. There are some surprising conclusions. The most important restrictions in the depiction of mothers in classical cinema came not from the strict sexual norms of the 1940s but in reactions to women shown as having autonomous identities. Also, in contrast to classical films, third-wave films show a woman's problems within a social dimension, making motherhood political--in relation not to militancy within the left but to women's issues. Third-wave films approach the problems of Latin American society as those of individuals differentiated by gender, sexuality and ethnicity; in such films mothers are citizens directly affected by laws, economic policies and cultural beliefs.

La historia que se cuenta en este libro examina el proceso de apropiación y consolidación de la cultura física moderna en la Ciudad de México, a partir de la investigación de algunas de las instituciones y personajes que la propagaron y de los valores que promovieron desde finales del siglo xix y hasta la víspera de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El análisis exhibe como en las actividades físicas convergieron tanto preocupaciones e intereses internacionales y religiosos, políticos y nacionalistas. En el estudio se argumenta que la cultura física moderna en la Ciudad de México fue un instrumento usado por distintos agentes sociales para crear una base juvenil que apoyara y difundiera proyectos específicos de nación, desde los que se buscó proyectar a los mexicanos en el ámbito internacional. De ahí que no se desarrollara en el país un solo nacionalismo desde la cultura física, como hasta ahora se ha afirmado, sino varios. Tales expresiones nacionalistas se expresaron desde el deportivismo y la gimnasia en masas.
