During a time of uncertainty over collective identity and social transformation, Quebec novels started getting sick – after 1940, the number of narratives about illness, disease, and sick characters intensified. For the last seventy years, generations of authors have turned to medically oriented stories to represent day to day life and political turmoil. In Curative Illnesses, Julie Robert investigates how the theme of sickness is woven into literature and gauges its effect on depictions of Quebec’s national identity. Challenging the legitimacy of illness as a metaphor for the nation, Robert contests interpretations of illness-related literature that have presented Quebec itself as ailing. Through re-examinations of Quebec novels, Curative Illnesses shatters the illusion of congruency between the nation and the body, countering assumptions about nationwide weakness and victimization. For Quebec in particular, these assumptions have greater implications, because the separatist movement, policies of interculturalism, and majority language rights revolve around protecting and defending Québécois society and its cultural values. Robert skilfully demonstrates a more nuanced view of illness through a series of analyses focusing on works of literature from some of Quebec’s most renowned novelists, including Gabrielle Roy, André Langevin, Denis Lord, Hubert Aquin, Jacques Godbout, Pierre Billon, and Anne Bernard. Using an interdisciplinary approach that engages with nationalism, postcolonial studies, literature, rhetoric, and the medical humanities, Curative Illnesses explores how moving beyond earlier diagnoses offers new insights into nationhood.

Cancer is a major issue in the provision of health care. It is estimated that one in four people in developed countries are likely to develop it at some time. As longevity steadily increases, the incidence of malignant disease is expected to rise further. Important advances in the control of cancer have taken place and curative treatment has improved, notably in some of the rarer tumours, particularly in children. Advances in the more common cancers have been less marked, although adjunctive systemic treatment and population screening are lowering mortality from the most prevalent cance- carcinoma of the breast. Despite this progress, complete control of malignant disease is still a long way off. However, our understanding of the molecular biology of cancer has increased enormously in recent years and the application of this knowledge holds considerable promise for developing new therapeutic strategies. As for prevention, the cause of most cancers is still poorly understood although it is clear that tobacco avoidance would prevent most lung cancers and several others. Cancer is studied at many different levels: molecular and cellular biology, pathology in patients (particularly clinical trials), and prevention and populations (epidemiology). The psychosocial problems caused to patients and their families are being increasingly recognized and subjected to systematic study. Workers in the field, therefore, range from basic scientists to epidemiologists, from hospital specialists to community support teams. Each needs to have at least some knowledge of the role the others play.

A New Theory Of Cure written by Tracy D Kolenchuk and has been published by Tracy D. Kolenchuk this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-08 with Medical categories.

Our current theory of cure isn’t working. When did it stop? Today, we can’t cure most diseases. When cured – few can be proven cured. Even the common cold, the flu, and measles. I’ve had them all, cured. Over 99 percent of cases are cured, while medical theory “there is no cure for…” The same is true for many other diseases. We need a theory of cure that encompasses every curable medical condition or disease. This book is the first step on that path. Cure is defined by cause. Every curable medical condition has a present cause that, when addressed, results in a cure. Of course, many diseases are compound and complex, having multiple causes often causing other diseases themselves. There is plenty of complexity. To study cure, we simplify first and then build our understanding from a solid foundation. There are exactly two basic types of illness causes, resulting in exactly two types of cures. An element of illness has a single cause. The cause of an illness might be found in diet, body, mind, spirit, community or environment of the afflicted. The illness element is cured when the cause has been successfully addressed. Once an illness is cured, that cure is permanent. No cure is permanent. If the cause occurs again, a new illness might occur. This logic applies to every cure. Cures are forward movements in life. We can only go forward in life, not backwards. No cure is perfect. Perfect cures are a myth. Real cures are real. Both healing and curing function by addressing the basic causes of illness. Healing cures are unconscious intentional actions that successfully address the cause of an illness. No healing cure is perfect - even when the results are better than before. Curing consists of intentional personal, community, and medical actions that address the cause of an illness. Caring is attention by self and community to address the signs and symptoms of disease, to aid and facilitate healthy tolerance of the signs and symptoms of disease and to aid and facilitate cures.
