Pedro Henrique Oliveira, em sua dissertação de mestrado, que agora se transforma em livro, fez um trabalho de excelência sobre a história da disciplina escolar Ensino Religioso no currículo escolar brasileiro. Ele focou seu trabalho em um aspecto específico da história da educação do país: a tramitação da primeira Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação Nacional (LDB), promulgada em 1961. Tal legislação tramitou por 13 anos no Congresso Federal (1948-1961) e foi marcada por intensas disputas. E esse é o grande mérito do trabalho do autor: analisar as negociações e os diferentes posicionamentos dos grupos político-ideológicos sobre a disciplina escolar em tela. Essa pesquisa buscou entender como se processaram os acordos em torno da temática do Ensino Religioso. Em sua análise foram indiciados diversos documentos do período de 1948/62 fontes primárias profícuas como: o Diário do Congresso Nacional, jornais, revistas, boletins e manifestos, com o objetivo de avaliar os discursos dos diferentes personagens internos e externos que atuaram nos debates sobre essa temática. O autor usou um instigante referencial teórico e metodológico, o uso dos conceitos de grupos de interesse, grupos de pressão, lobby, estratégias e táticas lhe possibilitaram concluir que o Ensino Religioso, na primeira LDB, foi fruto de um grande acordo que contou com o apoio dos grandes meios de comunicação da época.
