Dedicated to all the carers, formally known as 'mum'.This book that I wrote, my diary of his Dementia, my father. Losing his memories, his ways, his inhibitions, his dignity. Leaving behind in its path confusion, laughter, sadness and slowly a new man is reborn, one that I also grew to love.It is not aimed to be sad, nor mournful, along with those we had many good, happy times laughing with him and more often than not, at his antics. The facts, his behaviour, the deterioration is real and my father is real. His wife, on many occasions struggled to cope with him vanishing before her very eyes.It was once said that: 'He was an old man who had a bad memory'. Was they wrong? Not knowing that he had been living within the world of Dementia for the past twenty so years.I read books explaining to me the terminology, its medical condition and the history of Dementia, but it wasn't what I needed at the time. So, now his story has ended I wrote this book, in his memory, explaining what happened to my father, my diary of his world that he lived in. How this man can look so much like my father but sadly isn't.His comparison, his similarity, his behaviour, for others, who are now sitting there with their loved one, naturally wondering why? What's next? as I once did on being told he had Dementia.Having been a hard working man, who liked to be the centre of attention, his wife, his stability, he needs her now more than ever but sadly he will never know how much. When I was a child my mum was a caring wife........Now, she is nothing more to him than a carer.

Charlie’s dad has been told that he has Alzheimer’s disease, a kind of dementia. Dad has to explain what this means to help prepare Charlie for what might happen. To help themselves deal with this, the family think of the Alzheimer’s as an unwanted guest in their home, and they call him Al, short for Alzheimer’s. Dad’s dementia means that he might say or do strange things, but thinking of Al as a person means the family can blame him rather than Dad. They even laugh at some of the things Al makes Dad do. The family know that Al won’t go away, and they pull together to support one another as Dad’s condition gets worse. They know that Dad can’t always help what he says or does, but whatever happens, even when he can no longer tell them, he still loves them from the ends of the earth and back. This is Charlie’s story.

"Louie what?" John's dad, Pete, was already diagnosed with Parkinson's disease when he began to have some very strange experiences, not least of which was the little red-haired girl who followed him around the house. Eventually diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), his hallucinations and other symptoms became more frequent and intense, and Pete moved into a care home. Based on his family's experience of his father's LBD, Alex Demetris' comic explores with tenderness and humour one of the most common yet often unheard of types of dementia; what it is, its symptoms, living in a care home and the impact on people living with the condition and their families.

Dad You Ve Got Dementia written by Kristen Phillips and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with Dementia categories.

"When Kristen's father, Don, was diagnosed with dementia the signs had been there for five years. He'd gone out less and less, given up driving and table tennis, which he'd played all his life, and relied increasingly on his wife, Penny. Conversations went in circles. Kristen started trying different ways to get her dad back - not the dad who could recall what was said or retain facts about his family, but the one who was patient, curious and funny. Who said, 'I could talk with you for hours.' She realised as he searched for words that weren't there and reached for new ones, that the words he was finding and how he fitted them together felt like poetry. And Kristen, a poet, began writing it down. 'Dad, You've Got Dementia' is not about what is being lost on a daily basis but what there is still to find. It shows people living with dementia and their whanau that it's possible to stay connected with those they love."--

'This is a wonderful, rather special book: funny, warm and loving but also thought-provoking and deeply moving. Absolutely unforgettable - ironically.' ADAM KAY, Sunday Times bestselling author of This Is Going To Hurt Inadvertent cross-dressing. Attempted murder. Jail break. A waltz at a funeral. A hernia the size of Guernsey. Heartbreaking and darkly comic, these are the moments that litter the messy road from cared-for to carer, a journey that Robyn Hollingworth finds herself on when she's only twenty-five years old. Leaving London to return home to rural South Wales, Robyn finds that it's her old life - same teddy bears resting on her pillow, their bodies tucked under the duvet; same view of the garages behind which she'd had her first cigarette and first kiss - but so much has changed. Her dad, the proud, charmingly intelligent, self-made man who made people laugh, is in the grip of early onset Alzheimer's. His brilliant mind, which saw him building power stations and literally bringing light into the lives of others, has succumbed to darkness. As Robyn settles back in the rhythms of life in the rain-soaked vast Welsh valleys, she keeps a diary charting her journey as the dad she knew disappears before her eyes. Lyrical, poignant and with flashes of brilliant humour, The Man He Used To Be explores how in helping others we can heal ourselves. Previously published in hardback as My Mad Dad.

Daniel Woytowichs father was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia while he was still in college. This memoir tells the story of the diagnosis of, acceptance of, and journey through the terrible illness that is dementia. Daniel hopes that his familys experience can help others, especially young people, who are dealing with loved ones that have terminal illnesses. It is the story of how a young man watched his fathers life unravel in gradual progression, his coming to terms with the fact that his relationship with his father would be changed forever, and how he eventually came to the realization that no illness, no matter how debilitating, can ever touch what resides deep within all of us, and especially how it can never touch the everlasting bond of father and son.

"The subject of physical and mental deterioration and its consequences on people and their loved ones is one that most of us prefer to avoid, even those of us who provide medical care to the elderly. Yet, this is often part of the human experience. Information written on the subject is usually dry and didactic. Kathy Stewart has granted the reader access to her world, the assisted living community, where extraordinary needs are met by extraordinary people. Through interesting, illustrative, and poignant vignettes, a realistic, often intense and yet hopeful experience is accorded the reader. This book, crafted professionally and compassionately, is a gem that should be read not only by relatives of people suffering progressive memory loss but by all of us, since many of us will eventually be touched by this situation in our lifetimes." -Mark H. Greenberg, MD, FACR, Rheumatologist, Author of "Doctor, Why Do I Hurt So Much?" "Few events impact an entire family more than the onset of dementia in a parent, spouse, sibling, or close friend. Drawing upon her own personal and professional experiences, Kathy Stewart has developed a practical guide for caregivers. The book is easy to read, yet it provides a wealth of useful information which is accessible to all. It should provide knowledge and comfort for anyone caring for an individual with dementia." -George A. Kuchel, M.D., FRCPC, Professor, Citicorp Chair in Geriatrics & Gerontology, Director, UConn Center on Aging, University of Connecticut Health Center "Kathy Stewart has provided an outstanding, informative, and useful guide. This book is required reading for all adult children and caregivers who seek to provide the best possible care for Mom and Dad. I wish I had this book when my own mother developed stroke-related dementia and needed extensive specialized care." -Elly Trepman, M.D., Professional Associate, Department of Medical Microbiology, University of Manitoba, www.manuscriptsurgeon.com
