La fase attuale della politica italiana potrebbe essere efficacemente riassunta così: da una parte il populismo di territorio di marca leghista, dall'altra il populismo del sogno berlusconiano. Nel mezzo una sorta di populismo giustizialista, marcato dai segni inquietanti dell'invidia sociale. Il tratto comune di questi fenomeni sta nel rinserrarsi cieco nei propri egoismi territoriali, nelle invidie di vicinato, nel gossip televisivo...Mai come ora c'è stato bisogno di politica, in grado di ripensare i comportamenti collettivi nel contesto di spaesamento prodotto dalla globalizzazione. Rancore, cura, operosità sono metafore sociali che indicano i modi differenti in cui i soggetti si relazionano di fronte alle difficili sfide poste dalla vita quotidiana. C'è un grave pericolo che bisogna evitare: la saldatura politica tra la “comunità del rancore”, con le sue paure già quotate da tempo al mercato della politica, e le preoccupazioni e le angustie degli “operosi” che pur con mille difficoltà fanno impresa nella globalizzazione. Solo coniugando insieme la "comunità di cura" figlia del welfare e fatta di operatori, medici, insegnanti, impresa sociale, volontariato, che quotidianamente si impegnano sul territorio per produrre inclusione sociale, con il mondo degli "operosi" si potrà costruire una società aperta. Sta in questo corno la sfida della fase attuale.
