Due to the exploitation of international reservoirs, natural energy sources have become rare, disputed among States and therefore strategic. The reliance on these resources is linked to energy security and dependence in both terms of energy imports or exports. Furthermore, the access and reallocation of energy flows entail an alteration of the balance of power among States as well as the raise of national energy security strategies and debates. This volume examines the concept of ethnic domination and its manifestations in Israel (within the Green Line) and Estonia. Ethnic domination is a method of managing ethnic differences in multiethnic contexts through asymmetrical power relations, in accordance with an ethnonationalist ideology, whereby a group is subordinated to another holding the power, albeit not intent to directly eliminate the subaltern. The volume compares the predicament of Israeli Palestinian citizens and Estonian Russian-speakers in different dimensions (state-citizenship, government-parliament, parties). Also, the analysis explains the divergent trajectories of the cases: the tightening of the condition of Israeli Palestinian citizens and the democratization of ethnic politics in Estonia.

Come cambiare la scuola e il suo assetto organizzativo e quali sono le evidenze della ricerca internazionale sul miglioramento scolastico? Il miglioramento investe, per un verso, il micro-livello del singolo insegnante nella sua aula di lezione. Per un altro verso, il miglioramento può sfociare in una più ampia azione riformatrice. muovendo dalla premessa che l’era della riforma top down sia passata e dalla constatazione che un miglioramento contestuale dall’interno verso l’esterno (inside-outside) non sia di per sé sufficiente per agire in profondità sul sistema, il volume presenta per la prima volta in Italia una serie di saggi che indagano le possibilità di miglioramento relativamente: (1) alla cultura scolastica, (2) alla organizzazione di reti di scuole e partnership, (3) all’attenzione alle scuole più deboli, (4) al ruolo cruciale della formazione. Gli studi documentano inoltre il modo in cui il miglioramento possa diffondersi su una scala più grande, il ruolo della leadership e le riforme di successo come, ad esempio, la Finlandia e Singapore. I contributi sono firmati da studiosi di primo piano nel campo della politica e della comparazione scolastica come Louise Stool, David Hargreaves, Alan Boyle e altri ancora. Monica Mincu insegna Educazione comparata e Storia dei Sistemi Scolastici Europei presso l’Università di Torino ed è esperta di politiche educative, miglioramento scolastico e formazione degli insegnanti. Dal momento in cui è apparsa nel 1514, la «Melencolia I» di Dürer è ascesa a icona di culto – un culto in cui ha giocato un ruolo essenziale la sua esasperante, quasi irriducibile condensazione simbolico – esoterica, oggetto di secolari speculazioni almeno fino a quando, nel 1923, Erwin Panofsky e Fritz Saxl ne hanno dato un’interpretazione in apparenza risolutiva. Meno noto ma altrettanto illuminante è il contributo di uno dei fisici più eterodossi del nostro tempo, David Finkelstein, il quale, prendendo le mosse dallo studio dei due grandi storici dell’arte, offre dell’incisione un’originale analisi che riconduce ogni elemento a specifici ambiti scientifici e ne sottolinea così un carattere radicalmente nuovo. Non solo. Se già per Panofsky e Saxl la «Melencolia I» non rappresentava più la semplice traduzione visiva di un’inclinazione umorale, Finkelstein compie un passaggio ulteriore: facendo coincidere la scoperta rinascimentale della prospettiva con quella generale sull’«aspetto prospettico» (ossia relativistico) della realtà, individua nella melanconia la disillusione dell’artista e dello scienziato che si sforzano invano di raggiungere «verità e bellezza assolute». Al cuore di questo libro, dunque, c’è una vera, profonda messa in discussione degli «idoli della scienza». Uno snodo su cui il fisico torna in modo mirato anche nel secondo scritto qui proposto, una breve ma acutissima meditazione dove Einstein e la meccanica quantistica vengono rilette per approdare alle più ardite implicazioni conoscitive della scuola buddhista. Mostrando così come in fisica le «relazioni» tra gli oggetti contino più delle loro «proprietà»; e come non esistano teorie totalizzanti né, men che meno, conclusive.
