Max Weber S Science As A Vocation written by Peter Lassman and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-31 with Social Science categories.

Max Weber’s lecture ‘Science as a Vocation’ is a classic of social thought, in which central questions are posed about the nature of social and political thought and action. The lecture has often taken to be a summation of Weber’s thought. It can also be argued that, together with the responses of its admirers and critics, it provides a focus for discussion of the nature of modernity and its political consequences, and of the philosophical and political implications of the social or human sciences. This volume provides a full, clear, revised translation of the lecture, together with translations from the German of key contributions to the lively debate that followed its publication. The book concludes with a substantial essay on the current significance of the lecture, which discusses its relevance to the debates about the nature of science as a cultural phenomenon; the disjunction between science and nature; Weber’s conception of the disenchantment of the world; the division of scientific labour; and the fundamental nature and place of sociology.

Vik Muniz Afterglow written by Luca Massimo Barbero and has been published by Marsilio Editori this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-20 with Art categories.

An homage to Venice born out of a close dialogue with the curator Luca Massimo Barbero, Vik Muniz's project comprises a series of completely new photos inspired by the old masters of the Cini Collection, paintings by the likes of Francesco Guardi, Dosso Dossi and Canaletto. Muniz is fascinated by the Italian genre of the capriccio and by the Venetian tradition, and the result is this series of new works couched in an extraordinary vivid range of colours that sets out to hold a dialogue with the pictures on display in the museum. The artist revisits the theme of the 18th century capriccio in a contemporary key, simulating the brushstrokes of these paintings with cuttings of illustrations from books on the history of art, carefully selected not only for their colors but also for the images they contain. Glued together, they create the tactile surface of an impasto. Continuing the tradition of the artists of the 17th and 18th centuries, Muniz has rearranged these elements in a creative way, constructing new images that, through an interplay of allusions and quotations, intrigue and fascinate.

Keeping A Rendezvous written by John Berger and has been published by Vintage this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-07-13 with Art categories.

When he stands before Giorgione's La Tempesta, Booker Prize-winning author John Berger sees not only the painting but our whole notion of time, sweeping us away from a lost Eden. A photograph of a gravely joyful crowd gathered on a Prague street in November 1989 provokes reflection on the meaning of democracy and the reunion of a people with long-banished hopes and dreams. With the luminous essays in Keeping a Rendezvous, we are given to see the world as Berger sees it -- to explore themes suggested by the work of Jackson Pollock or J. M. W. Turner, to contemplate the wonder of Paris. Rendezvous are manifold: between critic and art, artist and subject, subject and the unknown. But most significant are the rendezvous between author and reader, as we discover our perceptions informed by Berger's eloquence and courageous moral imagination.
