A cinquant’anni di distanza da quella prima uscita, il libro di Elena Gianini Belotti mantiene intatto tutto il suo valore, e il suo messaggio continua a essere necessario. Rileggere Dalla parte delle bambine ci aiuta a ricordare come la cultura alla quale apparteniamo si serve di tutti i mezzi a sua disposizione per ottenere dagli individui dei due sessi il comportamento più adeguato ai valori che le preme conservare e trasmettere: fra questi anche il mito della “naturale” superiorità maschile contrapposta alla “naturale” inferiorità femminile. L’operazione da compiere dunque “non è quella di tentare di formare le bambine a immagine e somiglianza dei maschi, ma di restituire a ogni individuo che nasce la possibilità di svilupparsi nel modo che gli è più congeniale, indipendentemente dal sesso cui appartiene”. “Quando un testo scritto cinquant’anni fa dialoga con la cronaca del presente due conclusioni si possono trarre. La tradizionale differenza di carattere tra maschio e femmina non è dovuta a fattori "innati", bensì ai "condizionamenti culturali" che l'individuo subisce nel corso del suo sviluppo. Perché questa situazione è tutta "a sfavore del sesso femminile". La cultura alla quale apparteniamo come ogni altra cultura si serve di tutti i mezzi a sua disposizione per ottenere dagli individui dei due sessi il comportamento più adeguato ai valori che le preme conservare e trasmettere: fra questi anche il "mito" della "naturale" superiorità maschile contrapposta alla "naturale" inferiorità femminile. In realtà non esistono qualità "maschili" e qualità "femminili", ma solo "qualità umane".
