Die Otto-Friedrich-Universitat Bamberg pflegt seit langem intensive Kooperationen mit ausUindischen Universitaten, die fiber den Austausch von Studierenden hinaus auch die wissenschaftliche Zusammenarbeit fiber Staats- und Kulturgrenzen hinweg zum Gegen stand haben. In die stattliche Zahl der Partnerhochschulen reiht sich die Wirtschaftsuni versitat Budapest ein. Der vorliegende Sammelband ist das Ergebnis eines Gemeinschafts symposiums zwischen beiden Universitaten zum Thema "Entwicklungsperspektiven des gesamteuropaischen Integrationsprozesses: Wettbewerbsstrukturen, Anpassungsstrategien und Untemehmenskooperation", das am 16. 117. November 1992 in Bamberg stattfand. Ziel dieses Projektes war es, neuere Entwicklungslinien des gesamteuropaischen Integra tions- und Transformationsprozesses zu diagnostizieren, die Position Ungams zur und in der EG einschlielllich seiner EG-Flihigkeit kritisch zu beleuchten sowie Chancen und stra tegische Ve~haltensweisen deutscher Untemehmen auf dem ungarischen Markt offenzule gen. Obwohl Ungam und dessen Markt nur einen schmalen Ausschnitt der ehemaligen RGW-Uinder widerspiegelt, bot sich dieses Land fiir die exemplarische Thematisierung der gesamteuropaischen Frage besonders an. Das Land ist mit dem 1991 unterzeichneten Assoziationsvertrag bereits in die EG eingebunden, es zeigt eine starke Vitalitat fur die Erreichung einer kiinftigen EG-Mitgliedschaft und es hat im Prozell des Ubergangs vom zentralplanwirtschaftlichen zu einem marktwirtschaftlichen System bemerkenswerte Er folge zu verzeichnen. Ungam steht insofem - wenn auch mit allen landesspezifischen Ei genheiten - stellvertretend fiir zahlreiche Ostblockstaaten, deren Loslassung aus den Zwangen realsozialistischer Ideologie und Zwangsherrschaft die Utopie "Europa" neu belebt und die Grundlagen fiir deren konkrete Ausformung im Sinne eines "neuen" Euro pa radikal verschoben hat

Established in the belief that imperialism as a cultural phenomenon had as significant an effect on the dominant as it did on the subordinate societies, the "Studies in Imperialism" series seeks to develop the new socio-cultural approach which has emerged through cross-disciplinary work on popular culture, media studies, art history, the study of education and religion, sports history and children's literature. This work explores the sexual attitudes and activities of those who ran the British Empire.
